This lovely amber bottle was not found by us. It was either given to us or we bought it in a lot and we don't know the history of it. It was received as wrapped in newspaper many months ago and has been in a locked room since. I just unwrapped it a few days ago and was shocked to see the state of it. 8) It posed the following questions.

Where did the eggs come from? Does anyone know what critter laid them? Were they in the bottle when they were wrapped or did they get there after that? Did it originally come from another state? Another country maybe? Can't they read... it says POISON so you'd stay away if you could, wouldn't you? They must be illiterate bugs.

It is really can be a pain at state quarantine stations sometimes but this shows you why they are so careful and want you to declare stuff. We don't want this kind of thing being transported throughout our country... like those bloody cane toads. Anyway, the eggs are gone now and the bottle is beautiful. Makes you think though, doesn't it?! :p

I once drove to Victoria, only to find I still had a kilo of tomatoes in the esky when I arrived (long time ago now) first thing I did was boil them on the stovetop for about an hour to ensure nothing could survive within them, just to make sure that my mistake couldn't cause fruit fly problems down in paradise for our southern fruit bowl areas. :8 :D

Confounding conundrum indeed...
One only hopes that 'authorized' eradication (of eggs) methodology was utilized....

Oh yeah (couldn't edit my post above).....as to what their from?..

By the looks of the detritus in base of bottle (hard to see), but it looks like they might be of 'wasp' origin perhaps.

Was the bottle purchased with or without the liquid?

Cheers

The liquid is just water for cleaning. We don't remember how we came to have the bottle or where the bottle came from originally.
