I was wondering if anybody knew of any open areas in central qld that 1 can go swinging?

As I am flying to Moranbah next week for my final interview for a mining apprenticeship starting Jan.
Fingers crossed I get it (please pray for me to get it I need all the positive energy about it put out there)
And I'll be moving up there. So I will have opportunities to search around that part of the country when I don't fly back to Brissy on my week off rotations.

I imagine a lot of the land up there is already pegged out by the mining companies, bit just wondering if there is anywhere you know of that is friendly towards amateur prospectors?

And wwith the money I will earn, I'll be able to afford nice GPX or similar detector.

There are 9 designated fossicking reserves around Clermont where you are free to detect. There is a book called Gold Fossicking in Queensland by Barry Neville that has detailed maps of all the reserves. I think I paid about $30 when I got it a few years ago.

Update.

Well went up to Moranbah the last 2 days for my interview and and final attesting. I should of done something right, as by the time I got home last night was already an email asking for me to attend a coal board medical. So looks like the New year is going to be a good 1 for me

Just adding to Diggerdudes post..yes there are 9 general permission areas (GPA's) around Clermont but you need a Fossiking kit (maps of the gpa's and a sticker for your car) at a cost of about $80 or so a year ...also available daily or monthly I think..available at Clermont Detectors ..don't get caught on GPA's without the sticker or there is a fine..good luck with the job and the detecting....

I also work in the central QLD coal/gas fields, energy companies have alot of areas sewn up under E.L s so you will have to go away from the general mining areas.I sometimes get sundays off so i opted to drive my cruiser up instead of flying so i can poke around and find a few locations.

I have a small property at Cunnamulla which is a good meteorite area (apparently).Yet to try
