johno I suggest you fit the original 11" Mono coil that came with the machine, the one with smooth round cable. Then hold the start switch down on startup, that will give you the option to reset, select all settings. Then go ahead and do your frequency scan and ground balance. Set your threshold so that you can barely hear the tone and you should be good to go. Hopefully the only signals you here are genuine targets.

The reason I think you should change coils is because the 14" Elite will be a lot more difficult to run quietly.

the 11" mono mine lab coil is the one i have on the machine i was holding off running the elite until i get the hang of the machine but thanks anyway .i bought the elite with the machine for a few reasons , one i was in the shop 2 it was 50 bucks cheaper if purchased at the same time as the machine and 3 i know i will want it later anyway so grabbed it while i was there.

Well you've done one thing right! You bought a great weapon.
The first time you read the hand book it would of really made no sense at all. Normal
after using it for a day of frustration.... a bit of logic comes into play after reading it again.
This re reading after use will go on for a while.
A good tip is to photocopy/scan the instructional pages. And take out into the feild to make a quick references to.
The main menu select is one that should be written down in scroll order.
this can make it less stressful out the feild if you where the volume is in the order etc.
Practise going into the menu and open up the first choice. Look at the margin of variables, and where the default marker is for and average start guide.
Close it and then scroll down to the second option and open it up, do the same again.

I beleive so many people out there dont use their minelabs to their full potential in correct settings for where they are , coil set, swinging speed etc due to not fully understanding the variables.
And one of the biggest I beleive is simply the threshold.
I cant fathom how so many people just say leave it at 1'oclock!

One can just turn it on and run it default, and you will find targets no doubt at all.
But minelab offer you a detector that you can adjust and finetune in MANY ways to get the best possible outcome.

You could have a scenario of two exactly tuned machines, same model, coils etc, yet one person wants to swing faster and cover more ground, and the other wants to swing over the same area nice and steady, slow swing speed.
THIS WOULD BE WRONGLY TUNED.
As minelab even cater for your swinging speed. Set it very slow and use it it fast, you will probably find it noisy and erratic. A simple thing like not understanding this could lead to adjusting the wrong setting to counteract the noise.

Obviously do the course, meet some great people doing it as well. Some YouTube clips are to learn with, dont take all of them as gospel but.
Be patient, they can do your head in at first.
Most importantly.... you've made a great choice of detectors!

Hi johno you will find that your boots have a steel shank under the instep and are very capable of interfering with your 4500 , if you brought your machine off a dealer they shoud provide you with a free training day, most do.
Congrats on your purchase they are a great machine, leave it on factory preset and get to know it first before you start playing with settings, it will make the learning curve easier

If you were running in "normal" timing then that is most likely the problem, normal is not great on highly mineralised ground. Switch to "enhance" and that will most likely smooth out the threshold providing other settings are pretty much on factory pre set. If the coil was a good distance from you boots then it most likely wasn't the boots causing the issue. Though yeah, boots without metal are the best option.

Just my 2 cents.

thanks for the advice . did kinda have me a bit baffled why most clips i have watched say leave the threshold at 12 or 1 o'clock . i rekon it's adjustable for a good reason .
the course yep i would love to do the course but at $300 it will have to wait for quite a while and by then i may have it figured out .
all part of the fun though . cant wait for winter , i am not a summer person , bring on the cold weather .

Heatho made a good point. I can't work in anything but Enhance where we go in WA. If you are a slow learner like me you are not ready to deal with the assortment of setting available to you and you won't miss much on factory presets. The first thing is to get it running quietly then after a bit of time in the field you might like to fiddle with the various settings. Just remember how to go back to factory presets and you can't go wrong.

If you post the settings you're using it will make it a lot easier for us to give you some tips if we see anything obvious. I agree with Heatho & Moneybox switch to Enhance. Rx about 9, Stabilzer 8 and Quiet Audio. Threshold between 12 &1. Vary from there. Good luck

not real sure i have read so much my head is spinning a bit , but fairly sure i started by copying this blokes settings '

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=7khNYQNKEnc&list=PLLdi_ljNIuImd3xk-2A8sOd7gFx9ZOoq5

then when that was not good i just messed about with everything of course that didnt work real good either all though i did manage to improve it a bit , good enough to find 3 bullets anyway .
but from my reading so far i think i should of been in enhanced on the ground i was on ( but thats not the ground i am going to prospect on ) so next chance i get and with different footwear i will try factory settings and enhance and go from there see what happens . also i now know how to turn the volume down on the pro sonic so that should be a big improvement too .
