Thought we were doing the right thing today, getting the dog a 12 month heartworm injection. Within 30mins, her face, and eyes swelled. Vet said, it must be a bee, or wasp, spider. They charged us 20 bucks for a needle to reduce swelling, and off we go.

At home, I research the drug.....no bloody way I would give this stuff to her, if I had known the possible reactions. Posting this, as heads-up, my vet didnt warn us of any possible side effects, and I feel really bad to have given our dog this stuff, which will remain in her body for 12 months. The possible side effects can be severe, and include death, and long term illness.

Rang the vet, told her that I researched the drug, and now know the possible reactions. She admitted, that it was prob the injection, and its happened before. I suggest that they warn customers, she thought that would cause unneccessary panic.......said that people dont even ask their doctors, about side effects of meds. That maybe true, but not so much these days, as we become informed consumers, and I thought it a poor comparison, from somebody smart, and educated. Oh, she is crediting our account for the second injection.

yeah its stressful stuff dogs and there reactions, our little dog had a reaction to her vaccinations and swelled up her face and eyes closed up, there just like ppl they can be allergic to stuff like us.

would rather a reaction then poor dog dying from heart worms tho.

they should warn you and keep the dog around for 20 or so minutes to be able to sort it out.

our vet is really good (price is really good for them too lol) but ya get what you pay for.

glad your pup is ok.

Sorry to hear and I'm glad she's ok, Im a owner/operator of a dog grooming business, there's a tablet called panoramis, it's the only flea/worm preventative I trust, it's heartbreaking to see them suffer

We will use a monthly chewable, when this one is out of her system. The swelling has gone down alot, and shes almost back to usual self :)

That would have been terrifying to watch your dog go through that. Our dog had the heartworm needle too luckily didnt get any side affects, but we were hesitant its nasty stuff. and we r just giving our dog the chews too when he is due for them.

I specifically dont give my dog or cats the flea treatment on the back of their necks anymore either because i have lost 2 dogs from cancer which was located the same area as where the stuff was placed. ...Put 2 and 2 together.

Now i just use 3 drops of cedarwood essential oil and 3 drops of orange essential oil rub it all over the pooch and he hasn't had fleas or eggs since (10 months). And smells beautiful.

I hope your dog is all healed up soon rocketroo.

Our poor bloody cat went through the horrors with us trying to decimate a flea situation. :(
All the spot on stuff was next to hopeless and damned expensive.
Yep, Did the whole destroy the flea cycle but the bloody things persisted.
I think he was being reinfected by the Roo's coming onto our front lawn at night.
One day I spotted this Flea Tablet,
Exel Capstar.
Bombed the cat and within 20 minutes the flea,s vacated in one heck of a fast rate. I put him in the laundry with a white towel to lie on and
the next morning it was covered in dead flea's. 8)
Scratch flea problem at $18.00 for a packet of 6 tablets. Whenever he starts to show signs of scratching again, A tablet puts a stop to it.
.
Our cat is now a happy camper. :D
Oh, And no side effects. He knew I had done something to his food but the glutton ignored it any way.

we have been using Revolution on the Airedales and Maltese for years and found it very effective ,sorry to hear about the Rocket dog  should name an shame the vet tho... 8)

Sorry to hear that rocketaroo, that sucks big time when you put your trust in a vet to care for the welfare of your beloved pets.
Must be hard too seeing them not well at home and knowing you have to let nature take it's course.
