Not wholly surprised. The support for Clinton (world wide) comes from the Left and for Trump from the Right. The Right are only truly mobilized when the Centre drifts too far left, which first world countries have experienced in the last 20 years.

Personally the global outlook under Clinton was a lot more grey than under Trump. As with all politics the final conclusion can only be reached in hindsight, at the end of term.
