PayPal is a very convenient way to buy goods but can turn into a problem for the seller !

The Added cost when selling I can handle ' but not fraudulent charge backs .

Is there a way to offer this payment option safely ? :(

I can't give any suggestions regarding PayPal but if I were you I'd use EFT as an option, if your the seller. Not sure if it takes longer for funds to transfer either way it requires internet connection so don't see why it wouldn't suit a seller. As a business operator I do my work and get paid without fail by EFT. If you have any concerns about using EFT talk to your bank and see what security and guarantees they can offer.

Thanks for the reply , I already use bank deposit transfers , is that the same as EFTs :8

jack.

I invoice all my customers with the bank (eft details)
They can then pay via the internet, with electronic funds transfer (eft) ie direct deposit from their acc to mine, no third party involved, just bank to bank.
All someone needs is the acc number and the bsb number.

I use paypal to paypal accounts only if i buy something off ebay as they get the money straight away
anything else i go into the bank and put the money over the counter into the sellers account
Paypal fees are getting very expensive when selling or using them
Now for my two cents worth if i was to sell on here on the auction i would go for anything except paypal
EFT or even let your feet do the walking and go into the bank

Checked it the other day for a purchase. Cost me 2c in the US$. I can handle that. Paypal have recovered a lot for me.

I got a pain waiting on paypal to clear funds, often thousands of dollars at a time, but for the last few weeks paypal payments are clearing immediately, no waiting and can be withdrawn to my bank and cleared there within 24 hours.
Im shocked to be honest maybe there's a bug in their system
:D

Me I love Paypal as both a Seller and a Buyer, it costs, but it forces dodgy Sellers to do the right thing. As a Seller it gives my buyers the security of knowing they will get what they pay for, thus more buyers. Way to go for me.

Paypal is great for the buyer, not so much for the seller. I think if you sell through Ebay you have to give Paypal as a payment option but for any other sales I would look at EFT.

Magilla's on the money. The internet is listed with horror stories of sellers getting stung with paypal claims for stupid stuff like people swapping components of their broken item for the one you sent as an example then claiming the one you sent was faulty. If you sell a lot of cheap stuff on ebay you would just build this extra cost into your business plan, like losses from shoplifting for a shop front business.

Doesn't help the poor mug who sells a few high value items from time to time. I suspect the majority of paypal issues raised by the seller end up going the way of the buyer regardless.

Also good to remember that on gumtree there is no paypal buyer protection like on ebay, so this benefits the dodgy seller.

One example....

There you go, different results from different people, as a seller I have sold nuggets through Ebay all over OZ, even into USA and Germany. Never had a problem, occasional query re. late arrival but the mail has always come through. Without the protection the buyer gets from Paypal, Ebay would never be what it is.

That Paypal limitation was changed in July last year:

The answer to this question is a big NO as when any shifty oxygen thief lodges a claim your money will firstly be frozen in your account or if not enough funds in your Paypal account the adjoining bank account you have to link to it and be handed back to buyer. In many cases firstly before you have even had a chance to offer up argument and secondly on many occasions before you have even received your goods back.
The only way to avoid this is don't accept a Paypal payment.

I use Paypal a Lot, It is a fantastic option. Fraudulent charge backs are a pain but are easily defended if you do the right thing and keep good records.

Number 1 I book all freight Online at an Auspost account, that way I have records of every parcel sent and its entire journey from Yeppoon to wherever.

This is the bit that has saved me a few times, once to the tune of 2.2K. By being able to provide proper records of delivery process, copy of sales page (so they know your not misleading) copy of transaction and any communication you may have between you and the buyer. You make it easy for the person making the decision. By providing a LOT of information they know your not hiding anything and a clean paypal history helps too.

Its a total pain in the arse when you get one, but if you provide the right info it will work in your favour as people that do these things often turn out to be not that smart and I have won more than one case because the other party just told everyone to F'off and lost all credibility.

Its a process and like I said a pain, but the benefits of using paypal far outway the occasional hassle IMHO.

Less than 1% drama for me and most of those are a failed deliberate attempt to rip me off.

I get more Credit card style scams than anything else but VERY Strong Security has caught every single one so far.

I like the fact that Paypal offer the customer a genuine recourse if something goes pear shaped in a major way and it helps people that have never had anything to do with you gain some trust.

Remember to there are seller protection policies too and if you adhere to them your sweet as.

Hope that helps, I would be lost without Paypal in My business, If I can help please reach out.

Well. Just got charged $25US {) by the seller to use PayPal on a $700US sale plus 3c on the $ for PayPal :brokenh: . Using a credit card was $16US. Direct deposit was free.

Felt that. 8.( But still preferred that extra protection.

Couldnt agree more mate, Paypal helps to keep my online business squeaky clean...

Those that bag them, dont know the game, most likely part time internet sellers with a 'one-off' sale and dont want to pay....protection of your money, costs money, but its worth it compared to what you can potentially stand to lose.
