I thought I would check the actual gold percentage in the 2016 medals.
There is 6 grams of Gold and 494 grams of Silver.
I really thought there would be more..
The Olympic Gold Medal was last made of pure Gold in 1912.
:/

I have also noted that the Silver medal is .925 Silver
The Bronze is mainly copper, some tin and zinc -worth about $3-00

Thanks for checking that out Jaros,I was only wondering about that a couple of nights ago.

Medals made to a price.
Doesn't fit the achievement and effort they have made !

Next they will be down to the hardware and grabbing a few cans of gold, silver and bronze spray cans!!!

Really they should be solid Gold for a couple of reasons Because those Athletes Train for Years and years and Two the countries who host them make enough out of It, Mind you they would have to make them thinner because 500 grams of 999.9 would break the Bank, Even 9ct Gold would do but I don't know what 500 grams of 9ct would be worth.

The Silver content value is about $311.93 USD

John.

Crikey, That would be worth $9634.07 AUD @494 grams of 9 Ct Gold.

HA HA what do you think Cash Converters would give you for one of those?

about 3 cents on the Dollar, Geez I hate those places, that was where all out stolen gear ended up before the internet.

But @ $9634.03 AUD that a fair bit of change,

There was a time that those that took part in the Olympics were not meant to be professional Athletes, Like Boxers and Rugby players and such Yet this year we have had professional Sports Cyclists, and Andy Murray and a couple of others competing, heaven forbid if they allow pro boxers to join in because there will be Non Pro boxers getting slaughtered.
