I wonder if the the moss institute knows their motocross track probably sits on180 GM Au/ ton land?

whatever the gold rate is per tonne in that river , the problem has always been catching the stuff coz its so fine

even some dredges operating there in the 1900's were averaging a 98 % LOSS rate through their sluices

yeah you read that right

I'm a great fan of Oallen, have been for quite a few years. Haven't had the chance to get out there very much over the last 2 years but can still pull between 1 and 2 grams a day out there.
If you are prepared to do the hard yards you will get some decent fine gold. 8 hours of non-stop digging (minus the obligatory visit to a concealed shrub and lunch) can result in some nice fine gold.
Don't know about you guys, but I don't go there to get rich, love the hobby and I'm grateful if I get 0.1g.

Long live Oallen. :) :)

Hi all my name is Dan. Started high banking about 6 months ago. I have a homemade high banker set up like a gold hog viper with gold hog mats. Digging at oallen but not having much luck 7 hours digging for 1/2 gram. Looking for new ground can anyone help me out. Thanks

Welcome to the forum Dan,

Lot of other questions one could ask rather than locations of new ground on ones first post. Are you gaining the most from the Forde, and could your technique be improved on, and am I putting in the extra yards by not just digging where everyone else has dug. ;) The Forde is good for about 2 grams a day from banking once you know the area.

Wal.

Hi Dan,

First of all welcome to the forum.

Might I suggest spending a few weeks becoming acquainted with the topics and fellow members. Reason being is that people aren't usually very forthcoming in giving away spots to randoms in which they've put considerable time and effort into researching. Research is what it really comes down to, and depending on where you're located you shouldn't have too much trouble finding at least some basic info about the area floating around the forum.

If you add some basic info to your profile such as location etc, it'll also help members provide responses more specific to your area.

All the best and I look forward to seeing you around the topics.

Cheers,
Nugget

Hi nugget. Sorry for sounding like I was asking for people's secret spot's I was just thinking someone could steer me in the right direction. Thanks Dan.

Hey no worries Dan, I was mainly letting you know in case you didn't receive many responses to the question, at least then you'd know the reason why. People here are generally pretty open but we do get one post wonders from time to time wanting something for nothing without doing any of their own research. I'm not in any way saying you're like this though.

Here's a few topics to get you started.

What to look for when panning and detecting

Australian state by state known Gold bearing areas

Google Earth - Gold Mines & Deposits - Past & Present - All States

Also if you chuck the search term "Oallen" (without "") into search https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/search.php, you'll get a couple of pages worth of reading.

Hopefully that helps.

Cheers,

No offense meant Dan, and always willing to help steer new comers in the right direction where I can. When we get back from WA we will be heading out to the Forde quite regularly, and you're more than welcome to tag along and check out the techniques we use to better your chances on finding the gold lines in the area.

As Nugget said, many guys spend a lot of time, researching, testing, and traveling to new locations, in an attempt to better their gold tally. Generally if you ask for locations, most will tell you where they've been, and not where they're at. Some reading between the lines may steer you in a general direction, but generally if someone gives you a location it will only be after they have taken the easy gold out. ;)

Hope your research proves successful, and look forward to catching up with you at the Forde for a beer and a chat this coming spring.

All the very best with the banking and hope the gold continues to cooperate.

Cheers Wal.

I'll PM you as soon as I get back to Canberra Dan. Good luck over the winter and don't let the ice on the edge of the river put you off.

Cheers Wal.

Hi Dan, if you check out the forestry corp website for the fossicking areas in the state forests within your reach is a good start - they show old mines and zoning. Also I just google a name + gold. Good luck in your hunt and don't get disheartened keep checking new places

Hi Guys
Just another quick question from a newbie into sluicing/panning etc, my fiancee and i are looking at going down to Oallen for a few nights and i was hoping to do some sluicing with my new home built river sluice if the weather and water is permitting, but what i am not 100% sure on is if i need a fossicking permit to do it at Oallen ford as i cant find out if it is state forest etc and i dont have the permit yet, any help would be appreciated as i dont really feel the need to get myself in trouble or make other fossickers look bad
Thanks in advance
Jamie

Hi all. Just a question. I was cleaning up some cons and found gold specks getting caught with the black sand on the magnet. Is this for real or am I seeing things.

It can happen , but check under magnification to be sure it is gold. If so put all your black sand into a container for processing later & then get the gold back

If you got the concentrates from a place like the Forde, where 99% of the gold is flour gold, then this can quite easily happen. If you're using something like a rare earth magnet, it picks up the black sands in "clumps", and will hold flour gold within it. Some dedicated panning practice will soon get you all the gold and the magnet won't be required. Double pan when you're new and 95% of your gold will end up in the first pan.

Take this gold out and pan the second pan back into the first. Good luck with it mate and hope your pans are golden.

Cheers Wal.
