I've never noticed this thread before. Makes me wonder what the person who lost it was doing there and how it managed to work it's way down so deep? Bit of a mystery for sure.
 
As far as I can see, most of the oz police badges on ebay are either replicas/fakes or are obsolete. It is actually meant to be illegal to produce, import or resell fake badges with the coat of arms on them.
 
coppers are not allowed to hang clothing outside and get into big do do if they lose something because it may be used by the bad guys.. a copper losing his badge will or has landed him in the doo doo big time.. this badge may be connected to something bad... :|

Could very well be he actually sold it too....

I knew of a cpl badges in possession of those whom were not PO's (yet sourced directly mind you)...this is going back some years now, but it seems (back then) that NSW badges went for about $500 and Federal went for $800.

Those prices were only if they were 'fresh' and inside a wallet...'badge only' went for about 350/700 respectively.

Long away from that scene these days, so no idea of current market values.

Prices above provided to give OP an idea of 'market' prices....
