hello everyone.I woke up one morning and cant seem to get gold out of my head.I have no idea of the equipment required.I would like to go panning but I am unsure where to start. Can someone give me some sort of idea where to find a decent area,Anywhere in aust as my wife has given me a two week pass.Thankyou.

Where abouts are you?

Have a read through the equipment section on these forums and you will gain a wealth of information.
What style of golding do you have in mind? Swinging a metal detector or shoveling sands into a river sluice?

Sluicing is proberally the lest expensive option to get started, as you can make all the gear yourself out of spare parts and stuff from scrap yards.

What state are you in?

You could buy a basic panning kit i.e. like a Garrett kit & even a cheap, small sluice & spend a week or two around NSW @ Ophir, Sunny Corner, Sofala, Hill End, Windeyer, Hargraves etc. Most small creeks have some running water at the moment so a little stream sluice & some pans would be ok. Plenty of history to check out in those areas too.
