Newbie in Mittagong NSW

Good morning all ,just a quick introduction from me .
My name is Mark I'm 61 and living Mittagong NSW. , my self my wife and my 11yr old son are just starting out in the field of fossicking . So I can bought joining this group could help us learn faster . We are about to go on a tour around Hill end for my son's birthday in decbut was wondering where we could go locally to find things like Gold, sapphires any form of crystals as both my wage and son are avid rock and crystal collectors. Any help guidance meet ups would be much appreciated

You're probably best to start off by checking out the NSW rules and regs for fossicking/prospecting, so you can be sure to stay legal:

If you use PA's Search button and look for Mittagong, you'll find all sorts of prior discussion about your region and its treasures, but please note that many are sadly no longer accessible nowadays.

There's a couple of old gold mines in the Bowral are if I remember, I have them on a map somewhere in my pile of junk

G'day Mark, family and fellow members from Mittagong. I'm also from down your way in the Southern Highlands. Small world hey?

Replying to Capertee, yes this is correct however the 2 mines to the East which includes Southeys Mine are now included as WaterBoard Land and about 12 months ago when I went exploring there were signs stating access onto this land is prohibited also attracting a hefty fine. Why i don't know, given that it's on the very edge of this catchment area. Seems convenient if you ask me to keep people away from this site.

As for the 2 mines just south of Moss Vale, these 2 sites are on Private Property. I also tried accessing these on the same day that I was exploring the other mines.

For reference, I have attached screenshots of my satellite Mapping software showing this.
