New to prospecting - EQ800 vs Legend?

Afternoon all

I am new to prospecting and I am tossing up between the Exuinox 800 and the Nokta legend does anyone have any experience with either. The legend comes with a lot of accessories for $1300 where as the 800 is currently on sale for $999.

Other hobby’s are camping fishing and shooting. Looking forward to any advice from experienced prospectors. I am located in NSW just outside Canberra.

My 2 cents worth, What are you using the detector for.... Gold Prospecting/ Beach/Park coin shooting or.....
Gold Prospecting I suggest an E1500, however I have used the Nox 800 in Trashie areas in the goldfields with good results using a 6 inch coil. Its great for on the Beach/shallows also.

A friend has the NL and is very happy with it, I have not used it so cannot comment except to say, when selling either unit I think the Nox 800 would make a quicker sale.

Nenad of Phase Technical sells both units, I would phone him/SMS and ask his opinion.

After reading a few posts on here I wasn’t sure I was going to go down the path of the Nox 800 with a few members saying they weren’t surprised people weren’t finding gold with it. Then I watched a few videos on YouTube with people finding gold with it so it was back in the mix again. I did read an interesting post on here regarding the E1500 and watched a video online with it being tested so it is also in the mix. I have a budget of about 3K but I don’t want to jump into buying the first thing I see. Basically it will be used for gold coins and possibly on the beach. I understand there’s a lot to learn but I’d rather be in the bush with the family on weekends than sitting at home watching tv.

In that case, scratch the E1500, which is a specialised gold nugget detector and let's get back to the coin/treasure detector comparo.

With your lifestyle involving camping, fishing, shooting etc sounds like you like to get away from civilization and into the “wilds” so to speak. In that sort of environment I suggest a competent PI gold detector would be your best bet. A used 2300 would be be well within your $3K budget capable of finding both gold nuggets and coins/relics.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn’t sure if Nokta was a reputable brand as I had only really heard of Minelab hence my question comparing the two. The thread was a very informative read that has changed my perspective on the brand. There are so many options to choose from so this may take a while.

An SDC2300 for coins/relics will drive you mad in parks or on the beach. No discrimination so it's dig everything & very sensitive to even the smallest of metal particles.
Truthfully there is no 1x do all detector. IMO I'd aim for a used SDC or new E1500. With a budget of 3k you should have enough for a cheap coin/relic machine like a Minelab Xterra Pro or the cheaper Nokta/Makro machines that are available with good features/packages.

Thanks for the advice. I really do like the look of E1500. Being completely new to prospecting there are so many options and so much to take in. I’m glad I joined this group and really appreciate all of the advice.

Yes, it’s a veritable smorgasbord out there, with choices galore. As a total newbie to the fabulous world of detecting, there’s no substitute for the opportunity to see different machines in action up close and personal.
If there is a detecting/ prospecting club in your area look them up, as most of them are very welcoming to new members or guests, and will be only too willing to help you get started .

if talking to phasetech i would throw the nokta legend in the hat as well for his opinion

with a 3k budget you may be able to buy used and get a legend coin/relic gold machine (vlf) all vlf machines can be a bit noisy in some gold field areas but good for coin shooting

and as hawkear mentioned the sdc 2300 a dedicated gold (PI) machine for the gold fields
