New to Cairns area

Hello everyone, did some fossicking quite a few years back at Mt Surprise, will get back there soon but looking for some areas close to cairns itself. Interested in anything really? out of the car and head straight to the ground!Have found some info on speewah area for topaz and crystals but would love more. Haven't done much gold but would love to start, just simple, a few creeks with the kids etc, more just for fun, exploring new places and relaxation. G'day Missliss Welcome to the forum.
There is quite a few of us prospectors from the Cairns area that are members on this forum.
In fact a group of us met up today at the NQ Miners Den for a coffee and chat to plan future adventures.
One way to find out what is happening around Cairns is to watch the members meet ups under Cairns coffee meet.
But you need ten posts on the forum to access this though and it will be on top of the page when you are logged on.
I my self don't mind gem fossicking but I am more into gold prospecting
