I am relocating to Alice Springs for a couple of month from Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. I am an avid ghost town relic hunter here and have permission to hunt 19 ghost towns all on private ranches. I pack the ATV and go to a ghost town, set up camp and hunt for the weekend. I am leaving for Alice Springs on Friday, Feb 28 and I am interested in finding a hunting partner for some possible nugget hunting. Here in NM we have no nuggets so I am bringing my Eureka Gold detector to use while I am there. I have not done any nugget detecting even though I have had this machine for 5 yrs. I am interested to find someone willing to show me around, I will pay my own way and fuel. As I mentioned I camp out in ghost towns and metal detect all day, so I am at home in the outdoors. If anyone is interested, drop me an e mail.
Thanks for looking,

Trashpicker

G'day Trashpicker and welcome, there are a couple of blokes are on the forum that are out that way, they maybe able to help. Be good to hear what you've found in the old ghost towns, maybe a couple of pics.

Hi Trashpicker.
Welcome to PA.
I hope you have a great trip to the Alice and find a few of those nuggets you are after.
Agree with Axeman that it would be great to here some tales of your ghost town hunts

Cheers

Seriously , flies around Alice will drive you insane , I saw a lady wearing a head net & thought she was neurotic , but 15 minutes later , guess who was wearing one

Thanks guys for the welcome. as you requested, I have posted a couple of pics of my finds. I prefer to put them in display cases and hang them on the wall. I currently have 17 cases done. my wife refers to them as my "Museum of tasteless junk" but I like "treasures" better. The first one is of a ghost town in western NM that had a population of 4000 in 1910, the second one is of a ghost town in Eastern NM on a private ranch. and the last is a collection of belt buckles. I hope you enjoy them. Thanks for looking, Trashpicker.

That's a great idea for those into relics
Something else for me and the kids to do.

Welcome trashpicker, you have done a fantastic job in displaying those relics. I hope you go well in the Alice, i am sure you are going to have a good time their. Do some research on the old ghan railway, this may help in finding some old outstations for relic hunting? just a thought for you? :)

Love your work trashpicker, what a great idea for your finds, especially incorporating the historical photos.

From what I have read on this forum there is some interesting ground north of Alice Springs for zircon hunting. Not sure about gold, but as I am planning a family trip that way next year I will be keen to follow your adventures in this fair land of ours and would like to explore if some gold prospecting can be added to my trip. I am thinking salt lakes to the south ????

Anyone got some general gold location info around Alice to share?

Thanks Trashpicker for the pics, like they say, "one persons junk is another persons treasure", I love finding this sort of stuff, most people call it junk. After a day of detecting this so called junk I sit at the campfire and try to work out the story behind it.

hi trashpicker nice pics looks like you know how to handle your'e coil, while your out and about in alice keep your eyes peeled for "lasseters reef" she's still out there somewhere......waiting to be discoverd.....dug.....and claimed.... if this sort of adventure floats your boat (as it does mine) google "lasseters last ride" by ion l idriess a good read and a few maps from lasseters infamous diary or search "LASSETERS REEF NATIONAL ARCHIVE FILES 1930/512" referred to as GEPP REPORT......good luck bring plenty of water.. and (speaking in classic aussie slang) "watch out for those bloody dingeos cobber" ;)
