Hi, my names James and Im new to the group today. Semi retired and living in the goulburn area. Hoping to pick up some tips on nearby, and not so nearby places to detect and pan whilst camping.
Im looking at Jugiong and that area soon for a bit of camping and a look around.
Cheers to you all, and Ill go for a scout around the site now

Hi,
My interests are Victoria Hill in Bendigo, Victoria.
In particular my interest is the Victoria Quartz mine, which was the deepest mine in the world in its time.
It is also the scene for the photo which is on Australia's very first one pound note.

My grandfather is the person in the middle of the picture, Fredrick Joseph Smith, he was at the time the mine manager.

I have some belongings of his handed down within the family,
and are compiling as much information as l can on him the mine and things related.
Anyone who would like to contribute, please add to this posting

Hi James,

There a few of us in Goulburn.

Oallen is a good spot to learn panning, as the relatively abundant very fine gold will soon sharpen up your skills.

Tuena is a good spot to swing a detector and pan and has a good camping area.

Local knowledge is very useful, and most prospectors keep their spots to themselves and a few trusted mates.

Good luck, and let us know how you go.
