Hey Guys n Gals,

After 1.5 years of not having a detector i finally have my gpx 5000 again. I hope to start to contribute to the forum and send lots of gold pics

I love reading about everyones experiences and i think its time i start to contribute to. reading all the information you guys have learned i hope will help be become a great detectorist forthe next gen. Im based SW sydney and have done detecting in the past found about 15 littlies in total, had to sell my detector due to a family issue a while back, now am up and running again. If anyone feels they want to share info or help mentor me that would be great. i just got back from Hill End on Sunday after spending the day out there.
The Bridle Track looks thrashed. The old house (Homeward Bound) someone ripped of and took the new gate they put on to stop people from going in. About a year ago i tracked down the owner to n island in QLD who gave me permission to go on his land. I never got the chance to much so went exploring on Sunday. took a track and ended up 800m above sea level and could see the whole valley. Was stunning. The valley itself though is looking worse for wear. 10000's of goats, the river is empty in alot of places and not a soul in sight.

My next trip id like to goto Ophir in a week or 2... any help guys? I hear its been thrashed but am hoping that theres places that havent been. Id love to take the quad but doubt people will like that. ive never been to help would be awesome.

Welcome to the forum gh86. Great that you're back on your feet and swinging the 5000 around. The forum is a great avenue for honing your skills and gaining valuable info from fellow members.

As a member you will soon be able to access the PM system and that will open a whole new avenue of information not available to general guests.

Though technically illegal, so I will not say yes do it, I rode a quad around Ophir for years with never a problem, even stopping to chat with the local coppers and rangers on many occasions.

As for being flogged, no area is flogged until you are happy that you have flogged it yourself! Even then, it has not been flogged by the next bloke.

Good gold still comes from Ophir on a regular basis. Surface Hill will always produce some sub grammers, it's one of those places (much like Tambaroora) you can always rely on to get a piece if you need a fix after a dry spell.
Around and down from the cemetery has always been productive, and try anywhere out of reach from the day trippers from Orange in their sedans or soft roaders, hence why I liked the quad out there.

Hi Goldhunter86 , I will be out at Orange this weekend .... I was hoping to pan for a few hours myself , but still undecided - Ophir or Turon gates ? But first I have to work out what to do with my wife while I while away my time .....

Welcome Goldhunter. I'm also a NSW prospector. Just got back from Oberon / Tuena visit. Will be posting my teeny weeny find for a laugh, but all good fun. Cuckoowaif mentions Turon Gates...lovely place to soak up the bush and wife friendly cabins. I'm yet to try Ophir but obviously its gold country. I think the trick is not to pass areas particularly sides of roads that are very quartzy. While there can be more junk near roads there may also be gold just waiting to be detected. No access issues and rarely detected. People often head straight to the gold field sites and drive past km of "just as good" areas that haven't been flogged! My theory was justified by hearing a local in Tuena has had a lot of success doing this.
