2 months ago, I was diagnosed by my GP with tennis elbow. A month later he told me it was NOT tennis elbow but as he was unsure what it was he prescribed Lyrica for the pain. Based on information I've read on another forum and on my own Google search, I post this as a warning to members who may be using the medications - Neurontin and Lyrica. Google has a number of articles going back a few years warning about these 2 drugs. Today on another forum I found the following -

"Neurontin and its newer more potent version, Lyrica, are widely used for off-label indications that are an outright flagrant danger to the public. These blockbuster drugs were approved for use even though the FDA had no idea what they actually did in the brain. A shocking new study shows that they block the formation of new brain synapses, drastically reducing the potential for rejuvenating brain plasticity meaning that these drugs will cause brain decline faster than any substance known to mankind." Other reports also claim they may induce induce suicidal thoughts.

Following is a link to one of the articles - https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/clinical-research-finds-neurontin-lyrica-death-sentence-hind-kattar

Every single medication known to humans can cause other problems and has risks associated with their use. This is where doctors weigh up the potential risks and benefits and prescribe based on what they think will help or not. All medications have inherent risks, even herbal suplements have risks.

Everyone can react differently also. Myself personally, I'd rather suffer a bit of pain than have to take medications such as those.

Dr's only know so much.. mainly what is written in their Journals from the AMA... On several occasions I have had to tell My Dr what is right and what is wrong.... So now he calls me Dr Google... 8)

I was prescribed Lyrica a cuppla years ago and immediately broke out in a bad upper body rash.
That is the only medicine that doesn't like me.

Lyrica has given me my life back. I have a congenital malformation of the lower spine, which along with arthritis, gives me sciatica-type pain 24/7, but particularly at night. Before Lyrica, I was miserable, inactive and chronically sleep-deprived. Now I can physically do at least as much as most of my peers, and my emotional outlook has improved. So regarding the info above, I'm between a rock and a hard place?

That's the danger of an ill-informed post like the one that started this thread. The posted link to a poorly-sourced LinkedIn article is particularly reprehensible, IMHO.

If your personal experience with the drug is positive, CaylieCat, please discuss any concerns caused by the post with your medical professional.

Well now I'm using those synapses or I think so.........

I take one of these 2 and I agree with GS, before posting this kind of info you need to be asking "should or shouldn't I hit the submit button"

I have no obvious side effects however I only take the minimum amount, and I'm considering taking a spell from using it, but not because whats posted here, but under strict guidance from the Dr who put me on it !!!!

Remembering it's your body, therefore it's your choice, consequences are yours to deal with!!!!

Friends,
I thought long and hard before I started this post. My sole purpose was to bring to your attention what I had heard in regards to this medication I am taking.
The link I posted was one of many I could have posted but I thought it might be the easiest to understand.
I also mentioned Google, and thought that anyone who had concerns would use common sense and do there own investigative search. After all, we each have to make our own choices whether or not to take our prescribed meds.
AND, doctors don't always get it right. Some years back a specialist prescribed 2 drugs for me to take. When I presented the scripts to my pharmacist he was shocked that a "doctor" would prescribe 2 drugs that, when combined, cause heart attacks and blood pressure problems. When contacted by the pharmacist the "doctor" just said "oh well don't bother with the L*****m." He didn't care that he had potentially almost taken my life.
Sorry if my posting offends anyone.

Neurontin (gabapentin)
is an anti-epileptic medication used to treat seizures. Neurontin is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat seizures caused by epilepsy in adults and children who are at least 12 years old. Neurontin is also used to treat nerve pain caused by shingles (herpes zoster). Common side effects of Neurontin include:
dizziness,
drowsiness,
unsteadiness,
memory loss,
lack of coordination,
difficulty speaking,
viral infections,
tremors,
double vision,
fever,
unusual eye movements, and
jerky movements.
Other side effects of Neurontin include mood or behavior changes, depression, or anxiety.

What is Lyrica?
Lyrica (pregabalin) is an anti-epileptic drug, also called an anticonvulsant. It works by slowing down impulses in the brain that cause seizures. Pregabalin also affects chemicals in the brain that send pain signals across the nervous system.
Lyrica is used to control seizures and to treat fibromyalgia. It is also used to treat pain caused by nerve damage in people with diabetes (diabetic neuropathy), herpes zoster (post-herpetic neuralgia), or spinal cord injury.
Lyrica may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Important information
Lyrica can cause a severe allergic reaction. Stop taking this medicine and seek emergency medical help if you have hives or blisters on your skin, trouble breathing, or swelling in your face, mouth, or throat.
Some people have thoughts about suicide while taking Lyrica. Stay alert to changes in your mood or symptoms. Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor.
Lyrica: 12 Things You Need to Know
If you have diabetes or heart problems, call your doctor if you have weight gain or swelling in your hands or feet while taking this medicine.
If you are taking pregabalin to prevent seizures, keep taking the medication even if you feel fine.
Do not stop using Lyrica suddenly, even if you feel fine. Stopping suddenly may cause withdrawal symptoms.
Do not change your dose without your doctor's advice. Tell your doctor if the medication does not seem to work as well in treating your condition.
Before taking this medicine
You should not use Lyrica if you are allergic to pregabalin.
To make sure this medicine is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:
a mood disorder, depression, or suicidal thoughts;
heart problems (especially congestive heart failure);
a bleeding disorder;
low levels of platelets in your blood;
kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis);
diabetes (unless you are taking Lyrica to treat diabetic neuropathy);
drug or alcohol addiction; or
a severe allergic reaction (angioedema).
Some people have thoughts about suicide while taking Lyrica. Your doctor will need to check your progress at regular visits while you are using topiramate. Your family or other caregivers should also be alert to changes in your mood or symptoms.
Follow your doctor's instructions about taking seizure medication if you are pregnant. Seizure control is very important during pregnancy, and having a seizure could harm both mother and baby. Do not start or stop taking this medicine without your doctor's advice, and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant.
If you are pregnant, your name may be listed on a pregnancy registry. This is to track the outcome of the pregnancy and to evaluate any effects of Lyrica on the baby.
This medication can decrease sperm count and may affect fertility in men (your ability to have children). In animal studies, pregabalin also caused birth defects in the offspring of males treated with this medicine. However, it is not known whether these effects would occur in humans. Ask your doctor about your risk.
It is not known whether pregabalin passes into breast milk or if it could affect the nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding.
Lyrica is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.

I have now been OFF the Lyrica for 4 days.
The pain in my elbow has returned slightly and I am now NOT sleeping as well as I did while on Lyrica.
While I was taking the drug I had been feeling a bit down, mood wise. I don't usually feel depressed or suffer any stress disorders.
So I guess now I need to weigh up whether the benefits of Lyrica outweigh the dangers.

Do not give Seroquel to a child without a doctor's advice. Extended-release Seroquel XR is for use only in adults and should not be given to anyone younger than 18 years old.

Oxycodone side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to oxycodone: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Like other narcotic medicines, oxycodone can slow your breathing. Death may occur if breathing becomes too weak.
A person caring for you should seek emergency medical attention if you have slow breathing with long pauses, blue colored lips, pinpoint pupils, or if you are hard to wake up.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
shallow breathing, slow heartbeats;
confusion, severe drowsiness, seizure (convulsions);
severe constipation;
missed menstrual periods;
impotence, sexual problems, loss of interest in sex;
a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out; or
low cortisol levels - nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, dizziness, worsening tiredness or weakness.
Seek medical attention right away if you have symptoms of serotonin syndrome, such as: agitation, confusion, fever, sweating, fast heart rate, chest pain, feeling short of breath, muscle stiffness, trouble walking, or feeling faint.
Serious side effects may be more likely in older adults and those who are malnourished or debilitated.
Common oxycodone side effects may include:
drowsiness, headache, dizziness, tired feeling; or
constipation, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite.
dry mouth; or
mild itching.

Valium side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Valium: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior;
unusual risk-taking behavior, decreased inhibitions, no fear of danger;
depressed mood, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;
hyperactivity, agitation, aggression, hostility;
new or worsening seizures;
weak or shallow breathing, a feeling like you might pass out;
muscle twitching, tremor;
loss of bladder control; or
little or no urinating.
Common Valium side effects may include:
drowsiness;
tired feeling;
muscle weakness; or
loss of coordination.

I have bulged nerves in my neck and the pain I experienced in my back and arms was non describable. Lyrica made me able to get through all this.
I would rather loose a few brain cells than experience that pain again.
I will however check it out and look to reduce and cut it our completely.
I hate taking drugs but hey sometimes you just have to.
