Our tribe needs to make a trip to Ballarat in mid Jan 2020.

There are 6 of us and we are looking to have 1, maybe 2 nights accommodation in or near Ballarat.
Being a little on the tight financial side we have to be conservative on costs.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend anywhere that 2 Adults and 4 kids could stay for a reasonable cost,
we have even considered camping but are only held back from that because we don't know the area and places to go,
apart from carrying the extra equipment.

Any assistance 'targeting' an appropriate venue would be gratefully received.

2x Adults and 4x kids (one is 3yrs) and we are looking for mid Jan 2020.

O:)

GH, sorry cant help with Ballarat specifically, but way back when we first took our tribe for a drive across the Nullabour to Adelaide, I couldnt find an appropriate motel for reasonable cost in advance (the www was an infant then too), so I booked a regular hotel that had 2 adjoining rooms (with interconnecting door). It wasnt fancy but was cheap. Once there we only stayed 2 nights & located a fair price Motel by driving in & asking them for a good rate for travel weary Sandgropers

A welcome stranger caravan park in Scotts parade, ballarat east.
They have cabins, pool, big jumpy thing for the kids.
Its a 15 minute walk to the old black hill gold workings, and brown hill. 15 minutes from Creswick gold fields, 5 minutes to eureka stockade, the local pool and 5 minutes from town. They dont look overly priced.
Its 5 minutes from my place and looks really clean and well maintained.

Yes we did the same thing once in Mt Gambier, the adjoining rooms bit was actually pretty good, with the kids.
The rate was fair too then.

I'm hoping someone may either know an establishment owner or have experienced a place that isnt over the top.
It is what it is.
What I hate is "internet advertised rates", then when you call the rates go up another $100 !
And that is the website of the place you are calling!

Just need half reasonable not like $400 for 1 night, that is a joke, not that desperate.

I havnt stayed there yet but also planning a family trip later in 2020.
I have found the Eureka holiday park cabins seem nice and big enough.
May be woth giving them a call and seeing the rates.

Apologies, the 165 was for the big 4 just near sovereign hill. https://www.big4.com.au/caravan-parks/vic/goldfields/ballarat-goldfields-holiday-park
This place wouldnt be bad either. Its close to sovereign hill. Theres a park and small lake (Lake Esmond) right behind it, good pub for real nice food (red lion) just up the road and is 5 minutes from town as well. Says they have a pool and jumpy thingy for the kids as well.
Sovereign hill is 300 metres up the road as well as the gold museum. There both worth a visit even tho a tad pricey.

Thank you, I'm checking it out, sometimes these places sound cheaper but have minimum numbers of nights which may not fit.
I might have to call them.

;)

That is pretty generous of you, Kato would be seriously up for that, timing depends on accommodation and when we can pick up
another "package" on the way back.
I will pm you the date asap when I have them.

:trophy: :Y:

:)

Don,t forget you will still be on xmas rates at that time and bookings will be tight.
If you are looking to camp the camping ground at smythsdale is a good bet there is toilets and hot showers. The cost is just a donation and would probably only cost you about $20 for a couple of days.you don,t have to book
All you do is ring the phone number on the bbq wall to get the code for the showers. It is only about 15 to 20 minutes out of ballarat
