Possibly a ships fog horn, back in the day where a young lad was sent up the mast to lookout and warn ships. Or a pouring spout for a big bottle of plonk.

Very decorative, could be Middle Eastern trade related by the looks of the pattern.

Any other distinguishable marks or script???

ornamental neck cover from a fancy bottle?? very interesting artefact mate... looks African ish in the design...not indian style.. the make up of the metal may hold some clues... looks like it is a casting and not hammered out.. bugger.. :/

What an interesting find. I'm with Westaus, It does look like a Tagine lid, but I can't find one like that online.

could have come from the wreck of the cathrine adamson which is only about 100 to 130 metres away from where I found it. I have researched these sight on many occasions, thanks for reminding me as I have not visited them for some time now

Have you tried blowing into it like a horn. There is a loop near the mouth oiece where a chain once was, for easier handling and so it wouldnt fall from somebody up the mast. Doesnt look eurpeuropean. Looks portugease

It may have once had a longer end that connected into the top to make it longer and produce a better sound. Ive looked at a few online. Nothing like yours however had the chain loop there, may be older than i thought 1500-1700s?? Never know. Id take it to a museum
