Silly question time....................... given i do 99% of my detecting in the bush, where is the best likely place to detect on a beach?? Low or High tide, etc, etc, etc, and and extra etc coz i can

Hi KOD

It really depends on what kind of detector you have and how uncomfortable you want to be....

Most of the entry level detectors struggle in the wet sand and shallow water and are relegated to the dry sand and car parks - so most anytime of day.

Detectors that are water proof or have a submersible coils are designed to cope with wet sand and water - therefore low tides present the largest detecting area.

For those in the know - gutters in the water are natural collection points - and some guys put on the wet suit and go out with a water proof.

Some folks go to popular beaches to look for recently dropped targets - which don't require a specific tide to detect.

So you need to provide more info on what you want to do to answer your question ...

Well I went for a spin after work this morning and had a similar result
1 large cent, 2 half penny's, 50c, 10c, 1c, 1 florin, 1 sixpence and a three pence. Not sure what the silver round thing is but it has something engraved about the time in handwriting and the large black thing I think maybe an earring, just need to clean it up. Feels good to pick up a few silver but love finding florins!

That's what I was thinking but the slot on the bottom looks like a speedo in a way

It is to adjust clock tick rate and therefore speed the clock up, if it runs slow and vice versa.

These recent storms and king tides should be helpful in uncovering some beach finds, itching to get out when the wild weather ceases. Not sure how much sand is being dragged off the beach though, what conditions have you seen around the local beaches sabogan?

Well many people would think that I'm nuts (including the girlfriend ) but I went out for a short session last night while the tide was low. We are having really strong winds in adelaide, so I thought what better time to head out.
Came home with 1 florin,1 sixpence, 1954 half quarter Anna India coin, large cent, what looks to be a British large cent with the last 2 numbers of the date being 00 and a spoon with some hallmarks on the top (for you spoon gurus) had a good spread but the waves with the high winds did make this pretty hard at times

Morning session, only 2 silvers to add to the collection. Another British three pence and looks like its 1900 and a 1960 shilling

And looks like it was an earring or pendant from the other day, the black crud circle. I'm pretty sure its only plated

That recent storm must have exposed the 1900's layer - very interesting find Bogan - hope you have a left a few for me for next week!

Went out last nice and didn't find much, 1950 threepence and half a bangle. It doesn't have and hallmarks but I will be able to tell if it's plated by putting it in the electrolysis. It has A copper toning like the gold rings I have found

Team Bogan was reunited once again and went for another beach hunt... Here are our finds...

We found an array of goodies today - a 35mm SLR camera - a huge lead weight - sinkers - spoons (surprise) - silver coins - copper pre dec - moderns - what looks to be a silver St Christopher's medal (although someone may know a bit more than I) - a lead soldier - and lots of junk - great to be back hunting again!

A florin - two shillings - 1.5 six pence - two three pence all needing a bit of a clean ... No gold
