I had a couple of aircraft go overhead and it was picking them up for sure. regular heartbeat type wooop wooop until they disappeared.
I've never had that before Sniffy, but can't say i've ever been aware that they are going overhead either. Electrical storms can create enough 'static'? to play funny buggers. As far as i was aware, i thought he sdc was fine around powerlines? but that's not from personal experience. But as i say, i carry my mobile in my top pocket and it never interferes with the sdc. I presume you're wearing headphones?

yeah headphones on. Had them off and that was ok too, but felt I was picking the signals easier and more accurately with them on.

I should note - I've picked gold up before with a borrowed 5000 and a small mono coil on a 2 day detecting trip up Donolly way. Today was just my first crack with my own 2300. It felt really good, I think my self doubt is just being able to pick likely spots to really concentrate on. That's an experience thing. I'll keep putting up the days I'm going out and where, and hopefully spark the interest of someone who's been doing this for longer and can pick the ground.

Settings sounds right from what I've been told. Too noisy and high, it will skip some targets

Remember those detectors get interferrance from lots. Mobile phones, power lines, towns and storms. I've been told that you can hear the lightning coming through an sdc or gpz and it sounds scarey enough to make you start heading to the car lol

6 hours of swinging, hitting targets and no gold sounds a bit odd to me mate, mabey slow down the speed of your swing. See much turf with no undergrowth and surfaced work at all? Might only be in patches about the place but you want to detect them where the soil has a dramtic color change as well

These are not my words by the way, a mates
I carry my mobile in my shirt pocket when i'm detecting Atom and it never interferes with my sdc.
From what I know yeah, top pocket is fine but if your jeans pocket can interfere, especially if it has lots of incoming / outcoming data

I personally wouldn't worry about it much, but the first few times using a detector I'd like it to be as interference free as possible and then see if items will cause an issue once I'm used to its tones / threshold

Would you also reccomend using setting 1 at times SCROUNGER?

I use Sensitivity on 5 and threshold on 2, and yes it does chatter a tad, but targets come in loud and clear.
Just like the ZED, very slow and low, two overlapping sweeps per step.
An afternoon should take care of about 1/2 a tennis court.

As far as the phone goes, mine gets turned off and banished to the glovebox as soon as I leave the big smoke, and there
it stays till I return.

I'm heading up the Snowy Mountains for a week and a half as of next sunday Sniffy, but if you're keen i'd be happy to meet up at Creswick for a day when i get back? Should be able to show you the sort of ground i prefer to work if you're keen?

I run on 4 or 5 depending on the location, and about 3 or 4 lights. I know others that say run at the lowest but 4/5 work best for me. I never run without the headphones as i reckon half the targets i get are so indistinct i'd miss them with any outside noise such as wind and footsteps etc. But that's just my opinion. I don't wear jeans detecting, but i'll happily carry my car keys, coins etc in my pockets and they doesn't seem to interfere with the sdc. i definitely take my wedding ring and watch off though. I know other peoples 4500s etc react when my phones near their coils.

Well i agree about the phone redfin except that most of the time i'm out in the scrub i'm by myself and without putting too fine a point on it, 'i'm and old *******' that now needs to be a little more careful than i was when i was younger and invincible. I often go out without telling people where i'm going or when i'll be back so it's my insurance against getting stranded due to injury or whatever. If i'm going somewhere where i don't have reception i do make a point of letting somebody responsible know where i'll be and when i expect to get back.
