What do you take when you move? We're on an acre here and the new house in on a 1/4 acre so I guess that means that 3/4's has to go :)

After borrowing back a trailer that I'd previously built and sold to a friend, I left Capel on Tuesday with the forklift and some sheets of steel and aluminium.

I stopped in Perth and loaded on 30m of pool fence for the house in Geraldton. Like any time you borrow something, something brakes, well this time it was a 10yr old tyre that decided that it had done enough. I can't blame the trailer owner because I must have fitted it 10 years ago :| It wasn't until I arrived in Dongera 550 km up the road that I noticed it had a few too many holes :(

I loaded the van with several crates of Mrs M's special bottles and a few of those relics that are hard to part with.

The little Metho can is for starting the Companion stove but is a nice little thing on it's own.

My parents gave me the Mandolin when I was a little kid so that will go to my grandkids.

Then it just left a thousand or two bottles

A few too many old treasures...

Lots of automotive manuals...

and a bit of rusty gold that had to go in todays Facebook event sale :/

I dropped the fence in Geraldton then scooted across to Cue where I dropped the forklift and bottles. Then I loaded up the Hilux ute and returned to Perth where I dropped it off for sale. After nearly 2000km in three days the last thing I wanted to see was a few dozen strangers pouring over our old junk but it has to go somewhere. Mre M is having fun and lining her pockets at the same time so I guess it'll all be worthwhile in the end :)

I am going to have the same dilemma in the future but I have to ask myself the question when does things you love become junk ?
I have a passion for books. In my shed I have 45 storage cartons of books, not fiction, but instructional in art, photography etc.
I know eventually I will have to get rid of them, one way or tuther.
I feel for ya MB.

I can imagine what what it is going to feel like watching all those memories go one by one. :/

Jaros, the hardest part for me is finding a price that I'd be happy to accept and at the same time something that the buyer would be happy to pay.

Yesterday a guy asked for a price on the ivory inlaid coffee table. I said $100, he said "No it's worth at least $400 but perhaps more". I told him in that case I'll happily accept $200. He added a couple of other items and offered me $400. We were both happy but his wife shut it down real quick ... :(

Love that mantle clock. I have one exactly the same that belonged to my parents. And a companion stove minus the little burner. I feel for you all those memories. Good luck on your move :Y:
Keep the stories coming.

And I thought my parents were hoarders... Moneybox, that's an incredible collection of weird and wonderful things! The bottles alone! OMG! Mind - blown!
Awesome collection. It would be very hard to part with it though, I imagine. PS. Stop ignoring $400 when a guy tells you it's worth at least that or more, mate! Take the $400! He's probably gonna sell that for $800 now and you could have had it... Gorgeous table - and my grandparents had that same carriage clock too!

Best of luck with it all. I don't envy you that huge job!

Thankyou to the many people who came to the Capel Collectors Capers and general garage sale over last weekend. It was a fun time for all.

There were lots of interesting conversations, information exchanged both ways (you really DO learn something every day) and new contacts made.

Although you can't really tell, a lot of items went to new homes and everyone left with a smile on their face. Even the little dogs that attended were given a tasty morsel from the Munch Bar next door.

People literally drove their ute into the yard and loaded up with rusty gold. Some big grins left along with the load.... and there is still some left.

During the week I received a lot of messages from disappointed people who were working or unable to make it for other reasons...... SO we will be doing it all again THIS WEEKEND from 8am both days.

We are still cleaning up and finally the other half has taken to it like a duck to water. He's realised there is a LOT of STUFF we no longer need so hopefully someone else will find a new home for it. And just as much (well, maybe not quite as much) belongs to him, don't you know. :argh:

I know some people are coming back after last weekend so that gives you an idea that it is worth spending some time looking around.

There is some great stuff left.... AND we are finding new things to add all the time. It will be a completely different look next weekend so a re-visit will also be well worth it. The following is just a small sample of what is here.... haven't added any tools, either. Think of it as reading a picture book, lol. So grab a cuppa, sit back and feel sorry for us and our task ahead!! I know I do :( .
