Mosquito's

Just wondering if someone can explain why after so many months and in some case years of drought why we have a plague of mosquito's at present, how come there were sufficient to survive and now are waiting everywhere, they appeared very suddenly not long after the rain and are queued up at our back door waiting for someone to appear and are even riding on our backs to get inside for a good meal.

Have been putting on repellent and they have tried the "hold your breath and do a charge in for a quick snack", 3 hit me at once and nearly knocked me off my feet, and from past experience I must have a better quality blood than my wife as they will still go for me even with the repellent on and normally leave her alone, so now there are various repellents placed in most doorways just for me to top up with when I go outside.

Wife is saying that she can now find me from the odour of the repellents and sometimes from the noise of slapping or the beat of many mosquito wings in one place.

Same up here, since the rain they have been hell bent Aerial spraying during the day and fogging the streets late at night... Yearly event up here...

Wow, I was thinking this post was about the "lack of mozzies". We have none around here. Water lying around as a test bed for them. But helps the rabbits to breed up though.

Same here 2lateagain i am a mozzie magnet and sandflys,just can not get away from the buggers.

Thick here too ,walk out side on dark and you float back inside with that many stuck to you with the wings flapping for a quick get away

I can box up about 20 kg of mozzies for you goldtrapper if you like,i don't like to see people feeling left out mate :lol:

Got one mosquito in my office, no matter how much I spray the ******* won't die. Have swatted it a couple times but keeps flying into shadowy spots so I can't see it :argh:

The interior of our house is painted white throughout, but if one is heard during the night, it seems to be able to blend in with the white during the day and normally cannot be found unless it has had a feed off the wife as it was starving and it was unable to get past the vast quantities of repellent on me. She does not seem to notice that she is being bitten so they have a good feed and just land where they can be found easily, normally use the vacuum to get them as blood splotches on the wall or ceiling do not look good after a while. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Which reminds me. I found the Innuit in the Canadian Arctic wear white parkas in summer, which I thought unusual (mosquitoes there drive even the cariboo mad) They told me that the reason is that mosquitoes are attracted to other colours. So worth a try....

LW as we are on acreage we do not have curtains as they just mean more work for someone, as one person is a bit height challenged it means that I would have to take them down and put them back up and already I could visualise a bit of a dispute occurring as to whether they were put back correctly, so not being keen on disputes we just have Venetian blinds by sort of 50/50 agreement. layful: layful:

A mate of mine, Ray from QLD years ago, got up in the middle of the night to the annoying buzzing of mosquitoes in his bedroom. He stood on his bed and gave the whole room a good douse of spray.

Something wasn't right though. He turned the light on and realised he had sprayed his bed, sleeping wife and entire room with oven cleaner.

Got some stuff in the chemical cabinet here martin, guarantee it will curl its wings mate, but you might have to stay out of the office for a week just in case :lol:

Had a few horses floating around the other night.
You can hear them coming in for a landing accross the room.
Shot of Spray tends to sort them out.

As for the oven cleaner trick, A few years back, The wife left a can of Fly Spray
right in the spot where I have my instant bath sitting.

Got up the next morning and well, You can tell what happened.
