Hey fellars i've been working on a prototype mini under sluice and just a few adjustments should be getting results. I've tried to keep a portable concept so easily transported on the quad bike. There are some formulas to work out the trough depth water flow rate but i found it easier to trial and error re make trough or just adjust water flow. It's basically a small trough on a nylex tub with a 12v bilge pump and hopefully be good for pay dirt or just survey specking an area for samples. Has anyone had a crack at this type of under sluice. It required some tedious work but its close to completed.

If you mean the "U" shaped under riffle with an adjustable flow board, ive had a go at them using perspex and melting it into shape. They seem to work pretty well, I never continued a full sluice, just tested one riffle which held large and flour gold easily in the lower downstream end of the "U", I was just as impressed as the youtube vid I watched when I saw the results and action personally.

Also tested it out with a fluid program and it simulated that the heavies struggle to exit the "U" no matter what flow or board settings were used.

Id personally probably use one at the start or end of the sluice to catch any extra heavies of interest or to see loss rates.

Good luck with it :)

Yeah mate that's what i'm trying to achieve and i was also inspired by you tube demonstration. I got a little gear motor from Jaycar and speed controller for a trommel wheel. I have tested with solar panel and plenty of power with 60w, although a little big for transport and got a smaller one to try. If perfected it will be a very handy unit for finishing off the sluice work much faster than the pan. In principal the gold just traps and i believe its the specific gravity and doesn't matter how small the gold is. You can fine tune the flow board and water flow to even remove black sand apparently, anyway not finished yet but keen to see what it does. First trial was good just got to reduce the trough depth.
