After some serious thought, and even dreaming about it, Ive decided I cant give up my current job as yet. My current job pays well and I need to squirrel away some more retirement savings before giving it up. Id be ready in a year or two. Timing just isnt right. Bugga

Just tell them as such.... A little networking and negotiation wont hurt either side.

If your expectation exceeds what they are willing to offer, you only gave up an opportunity that was never yours, but they might hire you, or keep you in mind for later.

But its easy to respect your thought process here.
