Found This metal detecting and did a little research on it. Apparently its one of the first military hat pins made dating 1903. Anyone know if this is true or what it is and the value of it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jarrad

Hi Jarrad,
You have found a rising sun badge, please put up a photo of the back also.
Does it have any stampings on it?
What makes you think it is 1903?

And lastly, where did you find the badge? Not specific location just; park, field etc

Cheers
Reeko

I found a website which described the differences in rising sun badges and how far back they date. i cant see any markings but i dont know what to look for. i found the badge at a showground. there were heaps of old dwellings and stuff.
heres the back...

Hard to tell from the pics, might be worth getting a professional to have a look.
There are reproduction badges, but yours looks quite old.

Nice find!
;)

Nice find as you have a 3rd pattern and yes the dates go from 1903 to 1949 but from the condition and stamping I would guess more WW2 era. Not worth much but you shouldn't be in this hobby for the money. Many guys would envy a rising sun find, well done.

I have a collection board of these badges and that one is listed as - Third Hat Badge - 1904.

No idea of value. Will try and take a pic.

I guess it would have been the hat badge between 1904 and when the next one came out in 1949. So it could be from any time within that period.
Still no idea on value.
