Ok so you say to yourself what the hell is he putting this under Comedy for well thats where it belongs
Yesterday i had a mate come around to finish melting our gold
done the first run no worries 2+ oz all good however could of had the mold a bit hotter but its fine
dropped the mold on the table and burnt a patch of the table quickly picked it up so as not to burn to much more and dropped it on the dogs bed
yes i had gloves on but bugger was it hot grabbed the pliers picked it up and put it on the fire bricks bent down to stop the dog bed from smoldering
looked up as i could smell plastic burning
one plastic bottle now gone
yes Brett is pissing himself laughing at this stage and the dog has run away and wont come back near me
sitting there looking at my bottle of gold and black sand mix and we decided we would do that next
brainwave me said no need to separate the black sand from the gold as the Borax and temp would do that for us
borax in tip the bottle in more borax on top and stir for effect
i know what you are thinking about now and yes i agree with you now what a big D H
left it in for an hour while we had a cup of coffee
heat up the mold and start to pour
out it come no worries (yea right)
let it cool and remove from the mold place in water cant wait to see the end result
put the black mess on the brick lined it up with the hammer and started to crush it up looking for my gold
holy ***** nothing here except a lump of silver type of stuff no that cant be my gold look in the melting crucible nothing in there its empty
GOD HELP ME DR GOOGLE
end of story remove the black sand BEFORE melting as the minerals in the black sand will stuff up your gold
now its headed for a few weeks in acid process and then reprocess to what should be my gold and nothing else
so as you see it does belong in the comedy section
BLACK SAND
Black sands are used by miners and prospectors to indicate the presence of a placer formation. Placer mining activities produce a concentrate that is composed mostly of black sand. Black sand concentrates often contain additional valuables, other than precious metals: rare earth elements, thorium, titanium, tungsten, zirconium and others are often fractionated during igneous processes into a common mineral-suite that becomes black sands after weathering and erosion.

Mate put me and heat together anything could happen
Being a fly on the wall would give you some entertainment lol

Would you be able to break up the mould, and dissolve the gold in aqua regia? Then maybe precipitate the gold out of solution with Sodium Metabisulphate?

Wouldn't take too long if you break up the pieces. Just a thought

Somehow I don't think that would be a good idea, going by 7.62's Past experience's.... Cars, Sheds, Dogs and now Gold... :8 ]:D ]:D ]:D

LW...

na i dont think i better touch any of that sort of stuff i will leave that to my mate to do
as LW said i have enough trouble with fire
at least i can put that out with a hose or extinguisher

Ok here we go again i think we will stay in the comedy section for a bit longer

3.28g melted

things i have learnt today which i am sure i should have learnt the other day
1. use gloves as everything is hot (burnt fingers 6 band aids and lots of ice maybe thats a good thing as i now have no finger prints ]:D ]:D )
2. dont do it with with no shoes on the flying chips of stuff are dam hot when you step on them
3. dont do it in a carpeted room it melts carpet
4. lock the dog outside the room with his bed
5. have a well ventilated room IE: open the window ALL the way and put the fan on high
6. find the bloody fire extinguisher it has to be here somewhere
apart from that it was a good afternoon and fun
moral of the story is i really have to start learning by my mistakes

Or SCREAM a lot until it kills you

Hmmm. ok here we go... One to rival your's Ken!!!
Many years ago, we had a bit of fine gold I thought we should try to melt down....
So I had Mapp gas in the shed, had welding gloves and stuff, had most of the bits except a crucible....
Off to my local prospecting supplies store.... Bunnings....
So with all my research soundly in my thick head, I found a fence pole cap...

All good!! I mean Gold melts at 1000*C and steel is 1500*C should be perfect!
So take it home, set it all up, chuck some Borax and 5 odd grams of fine gold in and hit it with the Mapp gas...
She's melting!!! She's getting fluid!!! OK, lets go and pour it out.....
NUFFINK!!
So I heat the bottom of the fence pole cap, and its white hot....
Still nothing???
So I let it cool down and take a look....
I seriously have the most beautiful gold plated fence pole cap in the country, 'praps the world....

In fact probably the world because this smart operator plated it on the INSIDE....
I now have a $250+ Bunnings Fence Pole Cap!!! And the story behind it....
So moral is, dont be a cheapskate, buy a real crucible....

you did say it was a comedy,I can't say i've done that yet, maybe thrown out tonnes of ore though coz i get screamed at for hoarding rocks.
