G'day all!! I had a bit of bad luck last week, I broke my foot in a work accident, broken bones in the right foot and a lisfranc injury, the latter, I've been told requires a titanium plate and screws to be inserted to fix it, the question I have is, will this plate and screws interfere with the SDC I've just bought?

Is this the end of my metal detecting days? I hope not.

Cheers,
Paul

I doubt it. :)
From what other people have told me you learn to
side step in your gait.
I would not let some thing like that stop me.
Which Foot. ?
And are you right handed or left. ??

Potentially, I think there might be interference, but if you lengthen the SDC stem and take the weight imbalance loading off your arm by using a hipstick, I'd imagine you should be able to find ways to work around the problem.

Not as if you are going to be walking around looking
like a metal robot. LOL
I doubt if there will be enough metal to cause a problem.
I detect with metal cap boots with no problem.
True, A VLF detector with a 14"coil and I did not have an issue.
Mind you, That detector punch's deep and hard for a VLF with a coil like that on it.
If there is any interference you just swing out to the
right side a bit more.
Even people with a Z get around it.
And they have metal knee implants.

I love how the first thought you have after crushing your foot is "will I still be able to detect?" lol.

All the best mate, and I'm sure you'll figure out a way to keep on swinging that coil.

I Would not be worried if I were you :)
I use the SDC 99% of the time and wear steal cap boots no problems . :D

Thanks for the info guys.
I see a work cover dr later today and have a consultation with the surgeon tomorrow, so will know more then.

yes it was my first thought as it took me long enough persuading the hand brake that getting an SDC is a great idea lol. :D

Thanks again,
Best regards,
Paul

It'll be alright Paul,
Just go with the flow Cobber. LOL
Just stick it under the "Sheeby" system.
She'll be right mate. ;)

I've heard that the Z has the most difficulty. I expect to be back in the field in 2 to 4 weeks with my new Titanium left knee and 4500 - I'll post then. I also plan to hire a Z to see how that goes before buying one. Two great things about Titanium is it's not ferromagnetic and has crap conductivity - around 1/20th of gold and even less for silver and copper - effectively makes it a much smaller target.

I used Blundstones for detecting for quite a while and yes they did give signals so your new foot will surely cause you some grief , but i think you will get it sorted out
with practice

good luck

i have, plates and screws in my left leg and a metal rod from my knee to ankle in my right, plates etc.
Left leg doesn't interfere
Right leg goes nuts. you get used to it pretty quick and adjust ya shuffle to suit

I've got 2 screws in my left foot and 2 xl/large plates and 17 screws in my right leg lower tib/fib, it's like wearing a watch , don't swing near it. ;) maybe lengthen the swing of the detector to get it away.
