Hi All

My name is Matt and from Yass NSW. Have been doing a lot of reading over the past few days and finding this site most helpful full of hints ideas and advice. I have a xterra 505 which I am slowly getting the hang of and now getting into my panning and looking for these sapphires. heading out to Grabben Gullen this weekend hopefully.

If anyone is around the area and heads out often let me know I would be keen to tag along and learn a few things/techniques and to make sure I am getting the most out of what I am doing.

Cheers

Hey matty , im not heading there but i have a few tips for you ,
just watch for snakes there, seriously at this time of year can be a few depending on day. So dont leave jumpers or boots laying around and have good foot wear.
do you have some seives ? 1/4inch would do ,1/8 aswell if you had it . Any old mesh will do as a seive .

The truth about sapphires is finding anything as big as a pea is probably 1 in 200 , so think match head size and smaller. Anything bigger is a great day.

Panning is almost identical to gold but saphs dont hold in the pan as well as gold ,so when you get down to under a cup full in your pan just keep an eye on whats going out of your pan.

Goodluck

Thanks aussiefarmer.

I'm always looking out for snakes I like to see them before they see me. I've only seen a handful around my property this year but Id be happy to to see less.

No sieves yet that will be my next purchase. Thanks for the tips hopefully I find something just enough to get me hooked.

Just one question as I have been looking at maps all night would I be best going Grabben Gullen creek I found a spot near sapphire road that looks easy to get to.

Thanks

Welcome aboard Matt. gee's mate you are in a prime location for Sapphires. See if you can get onto some private property around Crookwell, do your research and you should clean up.
Good luck
Mackka

Saphire road at the bridge that crosses the grabbie creek top side other than that is pretty much private property. I hear wee jasper has a few good spots on road that goes from yass then through wee jasper heading south back towards tumit i think .
