Does anyone know how to keep kneepads in place? I bought an expensive pair, as I got sick of my old pair twisting on me when working under the house' Well, the dearer ones are nearly as bad as the cheap ones. Is there a solution to this problem?

My experience is hard shell knee pads tend to move, twist or contribute to rolling more than soft shell knee pads. One of the best I ever used was a cheap soft shell pad which was simply made up of three different layers and densities of foam. Single strap below knee from memory.

As silly as it might sound but knee pads are meant for kneeling in, not walking. And my experience is same as yours in that they are inclined to twist no matter what you do.

You can get away with a potter around the garden if you are lucky but that is about it.

If you want kneepads that work when you are walking around the bush then you need to sew pockets on your trouser knees and slip a set of soft pads in those.

Make the pockets out of 1000 denier cordura from a canvas shop ( or from an old folding camping chair) and they wont wear thru.

You can use bunning knee pads or motorcycle ones designed to go in pockets

I just bought some trousers from K-mart with the kneepad pocket sown on. I've been told a piece of wetsuit material is perfect for an insert but leaves a cold patch next time you go surfing.
😃 If you don't want to cut up an old wetsuit, stubby holders are a great alternative

How about sewing some velcro onto your trousers and gluing some velcro onto the inside of the kneepads.
Haven't tried it but just an idea that came to mind.
Also have that annoying problem of kneepads slipping around so might give it a go myself.
Have tried that but with the flexing and the catching of the pads on bits of our great outdoor I was left with one then none :).

Wider velcro or better glue may have worked.

Hi Mb, No such trouser in our local K-mart... all are enclosed. ( Never seen such, according to sales person)

I use a Knee pad with upper and lower knee stretch and velcro, but still moves around a bit, so am interested in the Trouser with the insert.

Found a set in Bunnings that look good, that will take the insert ( Is smick the go to term here) at $30 the Hard Yakka at $65 not so smick and the outside patch that takes the wear slightly thicker ( But no black patches... To Help with the camouflage)

Are you sure those have knee pockets - they look weird as they have loops at bottom and normally the pockets are top loading.

Also handy hint is go for the lightest pad you are happy to kneel on. Heavy pads just flop with each step and piss you off.

My Understanding: The top of the pocket is in 3 sections, the middle section more than a 1/3, the out sections are sewn up, so the wetsuit material is shoved down the middle section, and the open/velco (1/4?) section at the bottom used to pull the wetsuit material down to the bottom and with the top open section spread out under the pad cover..

My original post was about using them while crawling under the house. Sharp rocks! I don't wear them when detecting, as I just bend over to dig a hole ,not kneeling.

You snowflakes are making mountains out of mole hills. Yakka pants with the double material knees is more than enough.
Maybe if you didn't dig so many shotgun pellets and more nugs there would be less pain... ✌️🥰🤣
Nightjar. I was lying about needing kneepads for under the house. I really need them as I spend about 2 hours a day kneeling on the rocky ground in the Golden Triangle, praying that the next beep I'm about to dig up, is not the 175th bit of bird shot that I've found today, and will actually be a piece of gold!

Just toughen up and grow a callus on your knee.

Seriously perhaps I should start trying to protect my knees a bit. I find that every season I now develop a seriously thick callus on my right knee. By the end of the season it looks pretty much like elephant hide. It never used to happen and I'm not quite sure why it has started now. But I suspect it's either from getting older, or using a 6000, or more likely both.

Regardless it's amazing what your body does to compensate for the punishment it receives. Knee abuse? Ha, no problem, one in-built knee pad coming up!

At the end of the season I manage to get rid of most of it with a bit of picking and rubbing with pumice after it has softened up in the shower. But looking at my knee now some 4 months later the main part of the callus is still gone, but callused skin is still visible below and to the sides especially when it's a bit dry like it is now. Might have to try and find that pumice again...

I have never seen anything like that.

THAT is dedication !

I wonder if it has its own medical term? If not we might have to invent one !
