Damn local footy has been cancelled... stay safe, all that area has been a happy holiday spot for myself and family over the years. Especially Kuranda... A nice hot tub at the penthouse suite at the Rydges Tradewinds would be nice right now.

Even bigger bugger, a whole new set of warnings have been issued between Tribulation and Whitsunday, because it will maintain current intensity and head back out to sea tonight.. Look out Cairns! Take Care

Current conditions at home are the breeze is picking up, nothing serious yet but gusts are getting stronger, its been raining on and off all day.
It will be interesting to see what happens later on this evening when the TC Ita gets closer to the coast, the terrain between here and Port Douglas is basically you have the ocean, then you have a steep slope up to the table lands, the slope is around 300 - 500 m in elevation from sea level over a distance of about 1 km so when you look at it, its quite a climb. not sure how or if the different elevations will have any effect on what the cyclone does, just have to ride it out.

So far so good, a few trees down and lots of leaf litter around the streets as reported by facebook etc, hang tight everyone, its going to be a wet night

Cheers, Tone

Well the BoM jsut updated the cyclone alert,
At 5:00 pm EST Tropical Cyclone Ita, Category 1, was estimated to be
20 kilometres south southwest of Port Douglas and
45 kilometres west northwest of Cairns, and
moving south southeast at 11 kilometres per hour.

Considering I live 25 KM Norht of Cairns and 40 Km south of Port, it should be passing behind the northern beaches in the next couple of hours.. The wind is starting to lift to a more constant blow rather than gusts.. If anyone knows Cairns, I live opposite the Zoo.. so you know the mountain range I was referring to in my last post

The latest track map..

Well the new day begins with sunshine and high clouds. TC Ita gas passed by Cairns overnight theatening much but thankfully failing to deliver. Lots of vegetation on the ground, a few trees down but by and by we got of lightly

Ita keeps heading south to deliver her rain and wind to communities further down the coast. Tge rivers and creeks are in flood everywhrre and the clean up begins

Thanks for your support over the past few days its appreciated

Cheers Tone

Ok now the fun begins.
The drive from Mackay to Cairns tomorrow. So far the only part that is closed is between Townsville and Cardwell. Hopefully it is open tomorrow arvo or I'll be stuck Townsville for the night.
And hope Bowen and proserpine are ok in the morning.

Might leave Monday morning. Or wait til Tue.
Will have to catch up when I'm on the way back down GC
Will send you a message over easter.

Glad it was'nt too bad Tone, looked like it was really nasty on the radar and sat images. Still going to cause a few headaches down the coast for a bit I'd say.

Good luck too GC. Hope we get the remnants of it down here to move some overburden off the beaches.

Road was closed at Bowen too.
Looks like I'm here till Tue.
Will either drive home Tue night or early Wednesday morning.

No worries. went out just for a lookie see to the Dam, Proserpine River broke the bank at Crystalbrooke, the washouts at the ridge over the dam,

Couldn't resist picking up some rubble from the gutters. Very very fine sparkles. Should get my earth magnet tomorrow, will make life easier, been reading lots of stuff. Big washouts in the little creeks going up the hillsides. In the years prior to the dam, 20 inches made the river run, 25 broke the banks, the year it filled after Cyclone Joy, we got 40 inches and the river broke its banks at Foxdale near the Bruce Highway, at Grosskreutz's Corner. How much rain we got in a few hours yesterday? Who knows! The eye crossed back out over us.

All the foliage over Petters and Happy Valley got ripped out, beautiful bed rock visible.

Well if I get a chance on the way home his arvo I'll drop past for a look see
I'm coming back to mackay in a week's time. Will have time for a scratch around.
