Yeah, well we are busy tying everything down and emptying the supermarkets.. it is going to be very wet for a few days, looking at the bom track maps, Cat 3 at Palmerville! now that will move things up that way, hope all the guys with leases up there are ok and your gear is where you left it last time when you finally get back. I also hope the crossings survive ok.

Take care everyone out there in the path of this big one!

If you want a close up of the action check this link http://www.goes.noaa.gov/sohemi/sohemiloops/shnewguinea.html

Here is a link that you can see many different views. Use the middle column, this is SW pacific and Eastern Aus, http://www.goes.noaa.gov/sohemi/

Well TC Ita has landed at Cape Flattery, early reports are that the central pressure is rising, this means that the winds should slow down from 200+ to 100+ quicker than expected, If it stays on the land it will blow itself out overnight with LOTS of rain to follow. There is a slight chance it could head out to sea and reform, this is unexpected..

Stay safe everyone in the path, take it easy on the roads and don't drive through floods, its not worth it.
Take care and look after one another

Cheers, Tone

Hopefully will stay over land hey Tone. I was watching a live feed on oz cyclone chasers earlier ita was still a long way from cooktown and they were getting hammered. Cooktown museum lost some of its roof it would be very tense there right now. Hopefully everyone up there is somewhere safe. Waiting game to see what happens here.

Totally agree there Bushy, stay inland and blow your self out, its a shame about the old buildings in Cooktown, they are true Queensland for sure. From the reports on the news it seems everyone is somewhere safe, I guess the morning light will reveal the true effects. Lets just hope for a quick conclusion to a dramatic event. Raining at home now, my hgauge had 5.5 mm from 9 am this morning, be interesting to see whats in it in the morning.

Good luck mate.

Well with dawns early light I can report that it has been a wet night for us in Cairns, had some strong squalls and heavy 20 minute long downpours over night but we have yet to feel what remains of Cyclone Ita, I have had 110 mm of rain overnight, I am sure this will increase as the day progresses. So far so good, I think I can say thanks from all the FNQ guys and gals for your ongoing support and thoughts.

Update you all later.

Cheers, Tone

WOW It's true!!! I just looked at the Radar and your storm is turning the opposite way ours do in the US.

Dig you get out with a shovel TenOunce and divert some water courses before the cyclone hits, divert some water to your fav dig site?

No need to do that.
It would be pointless.
This will dump as much rain in 3 days than Melbourne gets in a year
And will totally wash out any trench you try digging
Now if you had an excavator and 3 days then maybe

Southern people get rain, unless you have lived up this way, u haven't experienced torrential rain. We should get tonnes ourselves in Proserpine in the next 24 hours, damn the footy is cancelled. That Barron Gorge would be an awesome sight to see right now.

Hope everyone up that way are safe. Here is the current Bom map.

The minute the weather drops off I'll get my brother to get a photo of the Barron fall.
Looks like it will hit us 10pm-midnight tomorrow
So no work for me on Mon-tue
Might have time to get out for a few hrs on Tue

Well just had to empty the rain guage, it was at 160mm, so that is 50mm since my last post..

This is going to push the rivers up beyond what yo think is normal floods, take a look at this link it is for the Mitchell river at the river crossing on the Mulligan Highway, this is THE sealed road heading North, the amount of water this thing is releasing into the environment is hugei

If you have a look at this pic you will see a few red dots.. these are flooded rivers, 8m + of water travelling along these courses.

This is a link to the source page for these, you can click on the icons and check the rivers etc. http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/flood/gulf.shtml

The Kuranda, Gillies and Rex Ranges are all shut due to land slides and trees down etc, its shutdown for the next day at least.

Stay dry, if its flooded, forget it.
