Don't ants have more than 4 legs? :(
That's why you use the glasses on your forehead Jaros..... then you'll see them clearly :p
I'm just thinking that if the wild dogs are still there being shot at all
after 1 080 baits have been laid..... then maybe the dogs are as smart as the ants are... or watch to see what the ants will eat.
just a thought hey...maybe they all need a drop of butchers blood for a tasty whiff. ;)

We are aerial baiting, ground baiting the usual way plus using canid ejectors. We're also trapping.
Because they are so elusive they say if you see a dog, you obviously have a dog problem. I've shot 6 this week already. :/

Must be that new dog attracting gun you just bought Steve. :Y:

Dogs are very wary of traps, they can smell human scent easily. Best to spray urine from a bitch on heat around the trap to mask the human scent.

Problem is, it's not just wild dogs eating them.

Dingos also, a native.

Spent some time at the Dingo Sanctuary in NSW, they are making huge steps to being able to get them protected and not listed as a Dog as their DNA is quite different.

But anyway, the pain and suffering the go through i don't think warrants the use of baiting.
(just my personal view)

How long does an animal have to be in Australia to be considered native ? A Dingo is a dog bought here by people from Asia. All pacental mammals including us never evolved here. Anyway I agree consuming a bait is a horrible way to go but it's the most effective and the suffering they cause to stock is not real pleasant either. I have had sheep walking around with they're guts hanging out from dogs :(

Rolling the Dogs sound like someone I know at the opposite side of Australia bore running a Wagu station,
every week 1/2 dozen dogs, then there are the pigs too.
They have had some good rain but trucking Cattle out to better pasture until they get some growth.

Dont need the Dogs, the Pigs less.

As far as I know they are not baiting.

While we are discussing dogs, today's Kalgoorlie Miner has a story that may be of interest to anyone knowing someone (Vistorian) who lost their dog recently.
This aged dog with chip was found wandering near a rest bay near Menzies, it has been fostered while attempts are being made to locate owners.

Its the cruelest way of killing something, not only is it highly poisonous it doesnt break down in soil and is absorbed into the plants around the bait. Anywhere that claims to have clean grass fed meat that puts 1080 out are ignorant that their animals feeding on the grass around baits are absorbing the toxins from the baits but as long as theres money being made we must turn a blind eye

1080 ? Incorrect and untrue .. this is not a debate , its a post to tell dog owners to be careful. I have reported all political posts, including my own as they are disrupting a very important post to help protect peoples dogs in the bush.

Here you go duke, straight out of the MSDS for 1080 baits.

12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Ecotoxicity: Sodium fluoroacetate is toxic to a range of aquatic organisms and
very toxic to most terrestrial fauna. However, it is rapidly diluted in
water and readily degraded by common soil microorganisms such
as bacteria and fungi once in moist ground.
Do not contaminate streams, rivers or waterways with this product
or used containers. Information on non-target animal distribution,
conservation status, habitat preference, diet, tolerance to 1080,
body weight and size of home range can be used to reduce
poisoning risks. Time baiting programs when non-target species
are least active or least susceptible. Follow label directions to
minimise risks to non-target animals.
Persistence and degradability: The product is biologically degradable and will not accumulate in
soil or water.
