I was going through my work files and i relized i supplied all of Australian Coles and Woolworths with Tuna,Swordfish and snapper part of the marketing was video footage of me processing fish at my facility. Anyone remember the lcd screens at the seafood sections showing a guy with blue apron, face mask and hair net with chainmail sleeve cutting fish.... well that was me! :D my brother in Sydney reminded me it was on always playing when he went shopping.

Just that i cant find any footage...and the marketing company wont send me the woolies portfolio...i sent them!

Good one Yob!!

I only realised the other day that swordfish was actually marlin! (please correct me if wrong) after hooking my first one and doing some research into the mighty beast! :D
After 1 amazing jump and then getting the line caught around the outboard about a minute later, it then released itself but left me "hooked" for life!! :D
Cheers,
Billy.

Fishing is a good buzz! And yep once you get hit by a big one nothing compares...
Broadbill swordfish is from the xiphias gladius family....not related to marlin...black,blue and strip marlin all look very similar the only way to truly tell is the pattern on there jaggered pointy scales. Swordfish dont have scales but rough razor skin like shark...but not as tough.
I love it when a marlin gets up and dances just pure magic.

I love my fishing but the poor ol boat never gets the workout it needs. Was up at fraser over Christmas a managed an easy 1m GT of Indian head. But the sod of a thing danced right off the rocks back into the deep blue. Well played mister fish. I also dabble in a little rod building and repair but that has taken a back seat since this whole prospecting carry on has started

I used to do my fishing with a Riffe Euro, big Macky's were an easy target, simply tap the spear with your dive knife on your gun to lure them in, the suckers would swim right up to you, then you would gently move the gun up and down making the flap at the end of the spear move, they would swim right up to it and gork at it, 'clunk' you'd pump that spear strait through their head, easy feed for the crew, that's if a Noah didn't come in and nick it from you

I did a little bit of spearing.....tonga..nz..all our beutiful south east coast... i threw in the towel after a scare!! Went 300nm out tuna/swordfish longlining ran into some turbo problems after our third set doing great nilly 2tonne shots any hoot! A huge bait ball boiled up while the boat was stranded afloat all night you could hear the action...we only had geny lights all mains were down. The bait stayed with our ship, in the morning the bait ball had grown 1000s of birds ,marlin, tuna, wahoo, spears&sails the odd shark confused with all the action me and two other crew had a dip swam under the boat looked amazzing...real eary!...the defining sound of a million tails swimming any hoot!.. i jery rigged a harpoon there were potential $75000 fish coming within diving distance so there i was goggles, undies perched like a bird on the stern 12foot harpoon over my shoulder waiting...i tied a 100foot safety line float with a backup ready ...was an hr later and bame a big yellowfin tuna was casing the boat i jumped!!! The sun was in his eye and i nailed it kill shot the tip was set in bone i surfaced to find the rope had coiled out and ran free the weight of the fish was slowly pulling it towards me so under no real threat i started fixing it in the water. Next minute a lil noah decides to take my catch so i grab the rope and start bringing on board i turn to see his daddy had just near swollowed it head first!! He took the line and me with him i had loops tangled every where ....1st dive took me 20foot 2nd dive was 40 odd as i was trying to surface i could see my crew mate swimming down with the grappling hook and as he wedged it between me the the rope it start pulling me up thankfruit for that!!! The boys got me on board and tied me off then proceed on giving the shark ago they got him up close then he spat the dummy and glided off... the skipper was in the engine room the whole time none the wiser
