Gebus you folks live a sheltered life. Squid jerky is a must when snowboarding Japan, bloody beautiful, as is salmon jerky, even better or dried sardines. Try living outside ya box sometimes, life might surprise youse.

You can eat rotton squid in the ice and snow. You will find me in a volcanic hot spring followed by fresh sushi and green tea or maybe a bowl of Katsudon and bottle of Asahi :Y:

I have only had the Japanese version - was a bit fishy and there WAS some less than pleasant after taste, but it did not smell off, or like a fish market.
The main flavour was really good and as long as you never stopped eating it, the after taste never had a chance to kick in ;)

It is definitely NOT something for all people though. Goes best with a bunch of beers.

I also tried fried locust/grass hopper things while there too - these actually tasted really good. Nice meaty flavour, but the legs got stuck between your teeth which was annoying.

Have you ever tried those big water beetles nug ? They are crunchy and the half cooked ones are just like chocolates if you use your imagination as they have cream centres :awful:

Personally I prefer Morton Bay Bugs to Grasshoppers.

:)

You brush off the legs before eating hoppers as far as I know.

:playful:

I am always game for new stuff, but this 'Mr squid' is not that Japanese stuff, I'm sure.

So if Gimp will PM me his address, I will send him a new unopened pack to evaluate. ;) :Y:

nope, about the only fast food I eat is occasional fish n chips
very rarely eat a HJs burger or KFatChook, never McD's
rarely eat ham, low salt diet, very rarely a can of softdrink
but I have a love affair with meat & frypan combos (with veges) :fire:
and beer   :D
while there's cows in the paddock, I have no need to eat dodgy crap ..Im most happy to keep you well fed with fly-dried-squid
