Hi guys, bit of a novice but at the age of 48 looking for a hobby to grow old(er) staying active outdoors.
Not long done a day out with Coiltek from Maryborough Vic. Thumbs up Eddie by the way, good fun.
Still yet to invest in a decent detector but during my Youtube research have come across heaps of videos from the gold areas of W.A.
These all seem to have the common denominator of lots of rocky reefs and quartz all over the joint.
This reminded me of a place I used to go as a younger bloke, north of Broken Hill in the Fowlers Gap area.
I've included a couple of old pictures of the area from the early 90's which don't translate too badly to digital.
I'd love some input from people with more knowledge than I (and that's a pretty big pool to dip into) as to whether it's worth the 10 hr drive from where I live in Victoria to wave a detector around up there.
Thanks in advance.
(I also posted this in a thread relating to NSW but was hoping for more from here maybe. If I've done the wrong thing sorry Mr. Moderator, I won't do it again) :8

smailly1,
No need for an apology mate.
.
I would start of by doing your research on the rough area for any activity as in Gold Mining before heading out.
I see friable ground with a few rocky out crops and what looks like a lot of quartz lying around.
Atypical of that area but do your research again and you never know, You may just stumble onto a rich patch.
Gold is where you find it. :D

You will never know unless you swing that coil over that ground. Of course get permission from land owner, and check to make sure this land is not under a mining lease. Good luck.
Sheryl.

Certainly looks the part Smailly in the Pics,

Nice red soil, a Shite-load of quartz intermingled with ironstone, heavily mineralized area with sparse vegetation (scrubby salt bush), high salinity....

Very WA looking hey!

I would say definitely worth a sniff around....bring a pan and run some tests on the topsoil around the area!

If nothing else, a good reason to get away from it all for a week or so mate!

Good luck dude ;)

Edit: And welcome aboard to PA also :)

Yeah that looks real good smaily,as metamorphic says it screams potential,i'd be there in a flash,it has the indicators for that country, ive done a bit up that way and wanted to do more pm me if you like.
It looks that good i'd be inclined to remove the reference to the area also

Thanks for all your input guys.
I'm not too perturbed about the location being revealed here. It's a pretty big neck of the woods, you can't see anything much from the road and to be honest you could have a hundred prospectors there and never stumble over each other.
The farm I used to go on where these pics were taken was around 80000 acres and this was small by most accounts.

Thats allready a sensative part of the country smaily,i know this by spending time out there, its not that theres a lack of ground its more so the station owners, right now there will be people sussing this out,by the time you are ready to have a look the station owner might of had 50 ph calls and preople dropping in asking for permission and had a gutfull, closed shop up that way for alot of areas,if it gets to busy the pastoralist wont let people on,good luck and great country........

Yeah, I'm sorry to all the psychics out there who've worked out where this is. Don't go knocking on the farmers door, he's sick of you.
To be perfectly honest it's 15 years since I've seen the joint. It's been sold since and I may get told to p... off when I ask!
You know what? That's the way life goes.
Don't try and make out that by posting 20 year old photos I'm jeopardising anything.
Posted these pics out of interests sake, and have been impressed with the positive responses from generous members.
Then up pops goldchaser who wants to p.m. me at first to chew the fat and go for a look maybe...., then chastises me for spoiling the area.
Seriously.
I may be a newcomer but I'm not stupid. Self interest is a bit of a character flaw in a forum like this.

Mate
Not all of us are so hungry we are going to try and beat you to it.
