Ideas on a rest stop

Hi all,

Short notice but I am in charters towers heading to Maroochydore. First time down this inland route. Was planning on cutting back across to the coast via Rolleston, Banana then down the A3 - gotta be there Friday evening.

Question is, after I have a look around Clermont can anyone recommend a stop for the night (hotel or motor inn) perhaps on the east side of rolleston or any spot worth stopping on the way...anywhere on the hwy i can stop, buy a bucket of dirt and sift for gems or such?

Mate I have travelled from Brissie to Cairns more times than I have had hot meals, however, I never stopped to detect.
Charters to Bundaberg no issues and stay at the Bert Hinkler.

You could head south from Clermont down to Sapphire and Rubyvale, couple of places sell good dirt that you'll find stuff in or try the big creek crossing just south of Clermont on the Rubyvale route, a good scratch in the gravel might turn up some stuff if you have a sieve, then grab an overnight stop in Rubyvale, good pub for a beer and feed.

if your heading south of Clermont you have missed the gem fields unless you take the back road about an 3/4 hour drive to rubyvale and you can go to emerald from there I would go to pats gems at sapphire you cant miss it has a big ring out the front

From Clermont Sth to Capella turn right Will take you to the gem fields You will hit A4 turn left will take you to Emerald. Happy hunting

Thanks guys that loop via rubyvale looks spot on. Using google street map it was hard to see what was between charters and emerald! Not too hot dog ranger...low 30s this arv....no detector with me, just keen to look out the window as I drive and stop somewhere if worthwhile. Cheers guys

Copping a bit of much needed rain here at the moment on the CQ Gemfields, not quite heavy enough to create good specking, but enough to make things muddy, sticky and greasy. More to come throughout the day. Lovin' it.
