Honestly I'm more enthusiastic than I am knowledgeable.

Found these green gems today near Castlemaine, seems to be lots of information on gold in the area but not much about gems.

They were found less than 10cm deep in a quartz reef.

Thoughts?

Agree. Has the hexagonal shape of quartz crystals with the green colouration.
A nice find.
Wikipedia gives other names such as Vermarine or Lime Citrine.
Good clear specimens can cut to very nice semi-precious gemstones.
Interesting to read that most gem quality Prasiolite is produced artificially by heating purple amethyst which sometimes turns green under such treatment.
Like most quartz varieties Prasiolite crystals could form in the cavities of quartz reefs or as geodes in other rocks. Image from Wikipedia.
