Hi all, have recently picked up quite an interest in detecting(only have a cheapo detector atm, more a coin and relic detector), have been researching for a while now and reckon that I'm in a great area to start), with the better half's permission I'm hoping to upgrade or at least buy a gold detector to find some loot, just need to find some decent coins relics 1st ;), welcome to any advice especially regarding my local area, thanks in advance, best of luck to all of you, cheers, Ben

G'day Ben welcome to PA what detector do you have, it'll help others with their advice they might offer. I'm just down the road so will organise a meet up and play in the dirt. When you've got 10 post's up you will be able to private message members so browse through the subjects and threads and the PA world will open up for you.

Thanks for the welcome, its only a real cheap one for now, more a metal detector, its a Chinese one, as said earlier more for coin hunting maybe, lol

Am going to get a pan and get practising and possibly backpack sluice for some of the finer stuff. Best of luck to you all and a catch up in the area would be good RM Outback, cheers guys and gals

Hi Ben,

The closest recognised Goldfields to you are probably Heathcote, Whroo, or Reef Hills in Benalla.
There are a few gold bearing areas/creeks not far from you however some of these are on the exempt list as tributaries to Goulburn river so just stay informed of where you can fossik with your pans and sluice.
I've cast my eye a few times over some of the rocks, cutouts and vegetation around your area which look positive for some small deposits, I reckon if you spend some time on Trove you might be surprised what comes up, as Seymour is just on the edge of two large recognized areas of gold bearing country.

Unfortunately most of the close areas are mostly dry diggings so best to get out when there's some wet around if you plan on using water.

Interested to hear how you've gone on the relics/coins around your area, it's not too far from me and and a place I've thought about since the farming expo two years ago....can't go anywhere without sizing up the coin shooting potential much to the shagrin of Mrs GT, usually safer to leave the detector at home though when we go out.

Hi Ben also from Seymour. For old coins and relics try the light horse memorial park. Could be a few hores shoes and nails aswell

2017 thread, Ben hasn't logged in since 27th July 2017. Doubt you'll get a reply. Better check your within the regs mate, just saying. We don't want to cause any drama by blatantly searching in a Memorial Park, especially this one. I'm also local but don't search parks. Perhaps best you have a chat with them and report back
