Minelab How to spot a fake Minelab GPX 5000

do I have to worry about fakes

We're probably competing for the same ones as I've narrowed my search to a 4000 as well I've looked on every forum and blog but haven't found any references to fakes. The main problem will be stolen units. I may have already come across one of these from the UK. Serial numbers of 4000s appear to be too old to be on the Minelab registry. When I rang with a number I was told that I needed the owner's name. An original receipt in the name of the seller may be the best (only?) way to assure legitimacy.

Openly admits his "MY 5000" isn't Minelab but claims the same performance from a 9.6khz signal frequency detector. Appears to be a cheap VLF in a knock off of the GPX5000 box.
Also discussion on another forum indicates the Nugget Finder & Coiltek coils he has for sale are rip offs.

Mbasko - I laughed reading the specs and description. Still has 'Minelab' logos on it so its still a ripoff and I would hazard a guess - a breach of Minelab's intellectual property-rights? EBay have been told and told but to no avail. Thanks for the timely warning - some poor bugger is bound to get stung.

Yep - laughable alright but unfortunately some get sucked into the claims like 1-7m depth
Been reported but seems EBay aren't too fazed. These sellers keep popping back up even with the same seller id!

Even though the seller indicates that is not a gpx5000, the fact that he is selling brand new fake items with minelab labelling would constitute grounds for Minelab to take legal action - different though if the units were being sold direct from China.

The transaction is occurring in Australia therefore our IP laws apply.

He only claims that the control box is fake and the rest is real. I doubt the coils would be real as they're being used on a VLF machine. Wouldn't be well matched I reckon if they were real.

I've reported them as fakes to Ebay a couple of days ago. They obviously don't give a crap.

On a lighter note, the autocorrect on the forum cracks me up!!! I tried to use the 4-letter S-word and it autocorrected it to 'poo' when I pressed submit!

Correct me if I am wrong but the charger does not look like an Australian charger. Sounds too good to be true. Be carefull.

Be careful I have taken photos with my I phone from the gum tree site waited until focus was clear then I was able to zoom in on my phone for a detail look, hey its worth a try

The thing that is real clear is the Battery is not the same as my husbands 5000 which is 12 months old AND BOUGHT FROM CLERMONT DETECTORS.

ITS ALSO NOT the same as my new 4800

The battery on the gumtree post has extra writing on it compared with our two batterys
