Great video Daz, I've watched it several times.

I hope you don't mind mate but I changed your topic title to something more descriptive and made it a sticky.

That's ok Nugget, what ever it takes to help is good. Yes is it a great video. I have saved it and I think I've watched it about half a dozen times already. Nothing like watching the pros go about their work. We can learn from them.

Lol you can all throw rocks at me but the way he pans is sooooo slow if I panned like that id never get any sampling done. In saying that we dont have the extremely fine black sand that they have to deal with. I don't think this video does the supersluice justice.

I agree G0lddigg@, most people will develop there own style over time but I think the video demonstrates the basic fundamentals for someone new to panning.

I'm No panner, so to understand the basics of the craft is the most important place to start. Yeh, I agree that after you learn how to pan, then the individual panner tailors his action to his specific needs but we who know nothing of the craft have to start somewhere and this vid shows how to do it. So I guess this vid isn't for the proficient but for the starter. Anyway hope it helps.

I do alot of panning and I see this video as a promotional video for garrett thats why they are using Freddie. Certainly will help people who are just getting into panning to understand the use of a classifier and sampling but I dont agree with his method of panning. Theres alot better ways to use that pan. But thanks for sharing daz

The "we don't have the extremely fine black sand that they have to deal with" you might want to check out the gold areas in the Mid North to North Eastern NSW regions, as fine black sand by the truck load in every pan and mixed with very fine gold.

Every area has different material and hence the ability to adapt your panning styles to suit the material being processed is necessary.

not we as in Australia mate, i'm talking about down here in the GT :) no doubt there's areas that have been churned out hard and have fine black sand we just don't get it that bad down here.

Yeah mate that's what I'm saying, geologically all parts of Oz are different and thus need different panning styles.
I speed pan when testing and in heavy black sand area am a little slower as generally just doing a clean up of the banker so a little more carefull.
A lot of areas I go with high black sand haven't been touched or if so have had little workings due to vicinity and absolute bitch to get access in, I doubt many would have been mad enough to explore the areas.
Others , yep have been worked over the years but still produce very good amounts of gold.

The video is good for beginners but yeah I agree definitely different ways of panning and old mates just showing an easy and gentle way that new punters can get their heads around.

good video Tassie Daz, thanks for posting.

Man I thought the specks of gold I find are small....I could not even see half of those in his pan 8)

Cheers,
