Bingham Canyon Open Pit Copper Mine was listed in 1966
Desolation Canyon was listed in 1968
The rest are either well under or over the 50 year mark. There are 14 sites in the state of Utah.

Right on the money, great little story attached to it.
Minerals, in the form of copper ore, were first discovered in Bingham Canyon in 1848 by two brothers, Sanford and Thomas Bingham, sons of Erastus Bingham, Mormon pioneers of September 1847, who grazed their family's and other's cattle and horses there. They reported their find to their leader, Brigham Young, who advised against pursuing mining operations because the survival and establishment of settlements was of paramount importance at that time. The brothers applied themselves to that purpose as directed and did not stake a claim. In 1850, the Bingham family went to settle what is now Weber County, leaving the canyon still today known by their name.

Bloody hell - what a nightmare- the never exploited by the finders threw me.

Folks - I am heading scrub in about 3 hours with my grandson for a week and no wireless connections. As a result, I will finish of this mysterious sea for you and some-one else can have a turn.
I am The Sea of Tranquility on the Moon.
Why am I significant to the history of the world? Apollo 11 landed here.
The three features named after famous people are craters - Armstrong, Collins, Aldrin.
The flag issue? The US flag was placed too close to the site and was knocked over in the backwash when the eagle left - all flags after that were planted further away. The US flag was not to claim the moon - it was to highlight the fact the US got there.
The stamp issue speaks for itself - its the one with the astronaut on it.
In the start of Independence Day - the aliens flew over the Sea of Tranquility.
The Wright Brothers - pieces of their plane were taken to the moon on Apollo 11.
The tragic jewelry - it was associated with Apollo 1 , where the three astronauts died.
On another interesting note - procedures are in place that in the event there is ever anyone going back to the moon, the Apollo 11 site is to be fenced and not walked over. It is also the only historic site in the history of man-kind where we can actually say - here are the first foot-prints of the first ever visitor. The Russians tried to spoil the party by landing an unmanned spacecraft to collect moon samples on the same day - it crashed. Other trivia - Yuri Gegarins medals were taken to the moon by Apollo 11, Aldrin had to pray on the moon in private as NASA was being sued at the time because 'public employees' were praying in Government places and on government time.
For all the 'they never landed there' skeptics - have a Valium and a lie down - the Doctor will be with you shortly.
