And the winner is the....Edward Jenner .
When he was a boy a Doctor infected him with Smallpox (no animal testing then apparently ;) )
They did this by making a cut and placing an infected scab in the wound. Yuk .
He was one of the lucky ones, he survived.
Later becoming a doctor, he searched for a smallpox cure.
While travelling he met a farm girl who told him she had contracted the non-lethal cowpox , therefore she would not catch smallpox.
Jenner got a healthy boy, infected him with cowpox . When he recovered he infected him with smallpox. Tadah. The ' old wives tale' proved correct.
The word vaccination comes from the Latin vacca, meaning cow.
Smallpox is the only disease in human history to be completely wiped out.
It is estimated Jenner saved more than 30 million lives.

Over to you HB

I thought Pete was right but then I found this...
Today, we'll look at the top 10 tallest countries using the available statistical evidence. We were interested that no African nations appeared on our list (given that some African ethnic groups, like the Masai, are famously very tall), but further investigation indicated that some of the very tall ethnic groups transcend national boundaries. Height is often considered to be a shorthand for measuring the prosperity of a nation; we will look at some of these nations and see if this claim really measures up or if it is simply a tall tale.

No.1 Netherlands
Standing head and shoulders above the rest are the Dutch. An average height of 60 makes them the tallest nation in the world. This is supported by the fact that the Dutch government was recently obliged to change building regulations to increase the height of doorways, as the population has grown so tall in recent generations. Once again, a Northern European country appears at the top here, so we have to assume that there is a strong genetic component in this result. With extremely high living standards to boot, Dutch men are well placed to deal with flooding should the dikes burst.

Masia didn't even make top ten on this list. Top 6 are all Nordic countries.

Correctamando1463 , the Dutch are the tallest , where in previous times they were amonst the shortest.

With which country was the first China war fought against
What was the name/s the war was called
What was the reason the war fought

Great Britain & was called the Boxer Rebellion.

All about the British supplying Opium grown in British India to China. & the Chinese trying to ban its import.

This had a lot to do with Hong Kong & the big British trading companies such as Jardine & Matheson

You need to be a little earlier that the boxer rebellion but you are on the right track re the reason being opium

The British had nothing the Chinese wanted, apart from opium which was illegal.
The Brits wanted Tea as the taxes kept the country running. When the Chinese Government found out they banished all foreigners. The British bombarded the coast for 2 years till the Chinese gave up. Can't remember the year off the top of my head. Only read about this a week ago.

The First Anglo-Chinese War (183942), known popularly as the First Opium War, was fought between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and the Qing Dynasty of China, with the aim of securing economic benefits from trade in China. In 1842, the Treaty of Nankingthe first of what the Chinese called the unequal treatiesgranted an indemnity to Britain, the opening of five treaty ports, and the cession of Hong Kong Island, ending the monopoly of trading in the Canton System. The war marked the end of China's isolation and the beginning of modern Chinese history
