Hilux's finds

[Hilux]

I found my first silver florin today, 1953 model, about an inch under the surface. The only other pre-decimal was a 1942 three pence.

I just had to try out my new Tyger Cub digger and got these from the verge of a recently demolished house.

Nothing too exciting today.

Perhaps an old military belt buckle. It looks like the Australian Air Force (aluminium) ones we had in the 1970's but it's made in the USA and is solid brass.

More riverside hunting. The last few days rough weather shifted lots of sand around. Nothing exciting other than a corroded 1955 Sixpence today.
It had black sand cemented to both faces covering the whole side. A an hour in vinegar with some intermittent hard scrubbing with the end of a wooden skewer then a rub with dry bicarb made it readable.

Found your school badge for you Hilux. It was renamed Scotch College (Perth) in 1908 - formerly The Alexander Scotch College, established 1897.


Motto says: May God be with us, as He was with our forefathers.

I found it quite a way from Swanborne where the college is. I found it riverside on the Canning River. I often wonder about how some of these things ended up where they did!

A few finds from along the river today.

The usual fishing tackle, an unfired 22 missing half the slug, Singapore 20c, a button and a mystery coin.

I don't know what the mystery coin is yet, it's having a bath in citric acid. It had a TID of 22 so silver or copper. Its thin with a serrated rim. Pretty sure it's not a $1 coin due to its thin-ness.

The button text says "Best Ring Edge" which google tells me is late 1800's to early 1900's.

The mystery coin was a shilling. The Rams head side is struck off centre, the head side is concentric.

A quiet day today. Fishing sinkers, 5 cents and an iPhone.

No pre-decimals for me today. A neat old shotgun casing rear and a recent dog tag were the only interesting things.

Jaros it was so good I went again today - plus the forecast for the rest of the week is rain........

The top right coin is a USA 1 cent, the rest are just normal coins. They're all corroded badly.

Nothing exciting found today. The machete was laying around in a bush hide. I figured it was safer in my recycling than left where it was.
