Hill End man panned gold for his wedding rings & took it to a Bathurst jeweller on horseback!

Pretty much did the same myself. A nugget I found on Winnekie field went to make my first ladies ring, the jeweler in Alice Springs had some 'diamond chips' left from another job so we added them to the ring as well! (5 I think?)
Then Mum gave me Dad's wedding ring when they divorced so I got that resized with a bit more Territory gold too!

I also did that myself. Thankfully it only took a couple of weekends to find the gold because I got lucky with one spot. 38 years later and the gold still has not replenished in that spot.
I didn't ride into the city on a horse to take it to the jewellers either.

It does have one downside to using pure gold, it is really soft. I couldn't wear it to work as a plumber, and had to get it rounded out every now and then.

Regards Axtyr.
