It's funny, I haven't ever given this much thought out in the bush. Camp plenty on my own and enjoy the quite solitude. I just don't know that there is that much of a risk to set yourself to worrying over it or planning to much for it. As stated in an earlier post more chance of something going wrong walking down a city street. Most of us think nothing of that either let alone carry something in preparation of defending ourselves while grocery shopping. Most of the people I have met out there are there doing the same as me or some other harmless activity, or stopping for some lunch and then continuing on their journey. I just don't know that we have that many nutters wandering the bush, creeks and rivers looking for someone like you and me to worry much about it.

agree dont think about it, just enjoy the hobby it will be bad luck if it happens but always keep a pick or shovel handy :)

Now I stopped and thought about it in light of some of the more recent posts I've been my own worst enemy and inflicted more injury on myself than anyone else....haha. Lacerations, burns, broken bones, strains and sprains, stitches....All gonna happen eventually.
You get the odd awkward moment that can turn in conflict in any everyday activity. Probably more likely to have something happen on the road or in the street than out bush.

Thinking about building a highbanker, seems like a lot of you guys go highbanking with a buddy.Just wondering if it is possible to do it on your own what with all the digging and raking.Do any of you guys highbank on your own and how do you find it?

I had to read the question again, I think we may have read too much into Eldorado's post!

I love prospecting with a partner to share the carrying, the packup and usually double the gold. Its def a numbers game and the more you put thru the banker the better its gonna be.......but we are still only talking half a gram to a gram difference. If I was finding ounces id prob be a maverick out there on my own! If the gold was that good the heebie geebies of snakes and chainsaw hillbillies would be well down on my list of priorities. So I guess that part is just mental attitude.....im not afraid of being alone unless I start over thinking the "what if" scenarios.

Ive banked alone and its doable and enjoyable if you are relaxed and basking in the glory of being out in our beautiful bush. It can be an almost religious experience to be out there just having a great time.

If its soggy and raining, I prefer a mate to keep me motivated.....some of us need more of that, others totally opposite.

I must say that some of the best times I've had in the bush are when I've gone solo. Not because I didn't want anyone to share the experience with, just that no one was available and I had a couple days off and was dead keen on getting out there.

There is something about solo banking that is truly satisfying, so do try it you will be a better person for it.

Thanks Twapster,I was wondering when someone would realise I was actually asking if it was possible to highbank on your own.The safety aspect doesn't really bother me,but the replies given here have made me realise we should be aware of our surroundings and who is about. We are collecting gold after all and we all know gold can make people do crazy things. Thanks guys.

Yes i just reread that that and now i see the question :) funny how easiky we are led. Absolutely i like to highbank by myself im jot a fan of the forward classifying system as it slow you down. Feed from the back water out front. Adjust amgle to let material fall away by itself if not working in clay. With the right gear absolutely

The best thing about going it alone is you can go as hard or as slack as you like without having to worry about not keeping up. Also if you pick a dud spot you wont have the guilt or suffer "i told you so" comments from your helpers. lol.
I find the actual process easy enough. Dig away for a while and make a pile of lose material then have a breather feeding it through.
Its at the end of the day and you have to pack up a mate comes in handy.

so true garyO weve all got that one winging mate who wants to go into production and isnt happy splitting a gram after a bit of fun.

When you say forward classifying system do you mean like the walbanker?Do you use a two tiered sluice where the big material falls off the back?

I always like to have my trusty side kick with me.
She is a team player follows orders works hard on the shovel and loves finding a bit of colour at the end of the day.
Wouldnt be the same with out her along. ;)

...a mate comes in handy end of the day when your eyeing off the gx200 and the rotten climb back up the gully to the car with it.

Heres an example of a little sampler banker with fixed height i use out bush when recirculating water. If all the rocks had to go off the front the bucket would fill up too quick and it wouldn't be efficient.
