Hi Ryan

yeah not convinced on the feed issue, we are working on a 1/10 scale wash plant now, and I for the scaled version I will be making the trommel angle adjustable, but I'm thinking 8 deg's is somewhere where it should need to be. the trommel itself, screen area is 2250 long by 600 dis, with three reverse helix , hit by 36 varying degree sprays at 1150 psi, have the trommel on setup on step down motor through a variable geared reduction box to achieve between 3 to 36 rpm by minute. Was going to use the rpm as the feed rate control mechansim.

Your thoughts?

Hi Village
The angle will vary on the ore body your processing. Pre classifying your material through a grizzle or shaker will speed up production if your running a serious operation. If you are running heavy clay material, you have to be very very patient your production rate will decrease dramatically. However if the clay holds gold your results can be more than satisfying.
However it sounds like you are building a sophisticated machine for a specific soil type. I don't think you will have any trouble filling your sluice box with the good stuff.

Hi Eugene
I have made and worked on a few units as mentioned previously. The RPM is too high on this unit. Tests have been conducted by mining companies to find the optimum RPM of a Trommel. They have more funds for R & D. Plus gold loss is a big deal to mining companies. I built some equipment for a mining company that has a mining licence in PNG. The mining engineer gave me some good info of do's and don't when it comes to wash plant.
I have attached a couple ofphotos.
The green machine is my little toy, I call him Shrek.
The other Trommel is a custom machine I designed and built for a mining lease holder here in vic.

Trommels are great for gems, the method is the Same as a high banker. Trommels have a Higher recovery rate in heavy clay soils due to the scrubbing motion. Gems have a high specific gravity and will stay in the sluice box for recovery.

Ryan what did you sell the trommels for in the end?
Hi Sam
I sold the big trommel to a guy for his private property he later changed his mind and sold it for $25,000. He profited from the exercise.

I did see that on http://www.prospectingsupplies.com.au/products/231-10-thr-scrubbertrommel-sold.aspx
If you built another one what do you sell them for? Even a ball park would be great. Cheers Paul
Hi Paul
Yes there are a few trommels on Geoff's site that have been through my factory. I restored a few for him a while back.
To price a trommel for you is difficult without knowing a little more about what you want to do? Eg prospect, small scale mining to full noise mining.
If you want a little discretion post me in my message in box and I will discuss particular details there.
However if you have a DIY project I am happy to help as best as I can on the forum
Cheers Ryan
