My name is Fiona and I'm another gold newbie from Brisbane.

I've mostly done sapphire fossicking over the last 8 years around the Glen Innes / Inverell area when ever I can get the chance to get away for a week (which isn't as often as I'd like), but have lately started to think about gold fossicking as well.

I'm off again next week to Inverell, and hoping to get a little bit of gold fossicking into between the sapphire hunting.

Thinking of having a look around the Drake area on the way down, and sticking my nose in at Kookabrookra out past Glen Innes & along the Sara river for a day to see what I can find.

I've never been around Drake, can anyone tell me some areas around there that might be worth a look for panning / sluicing??

Welcome to the forum Fiona, and good to see that your in the process of expanding your horizons into Gold as well as gems....If your heading around the Drake area, can i suggest that you Google up Paul Clachers' article for their Easter Field trip to the area...He has lots of info that will be right up your ally for both the gold and the numerous gems in that area. He's part of the Fossickers Network and has done a lot of research in the New England region.

Google....Fossicking around Bonalbo....and you will find some great locations and info on his research....Cheers Wal.

Welcome Fiona, The Tooloom/Drake areas still hold a bit of gold yet.
I dont know about the Drake area very much but the Tooloom area is now mostly privatly owned and permission is the way to go.
I have heard stories about Kookabrookra, very interesting indeed.
