Hey everyone first time posting! Found this on the ground on a walk, the ground was newly cut for a road and these little flecks were everywhere - also there was a fair amount of quartz around the place too. Area was around central VIC the typical gold areas. Be keen to hear form some experts I get the feeling its pyrite but dunno any ideas?

Looks like mica to me. Mica is typically flaky, whereas pyrites are typically granular.

Yes it does look like mica but could possibly be steel from the blade if they've had to scrape stone. It's a constant problem with scrape and detect however it soon goes rusty.

I find steel shards like that where the blades gone over rocks. Gold monster loves them.

My Money is on Mica for that one, can you bend it with fingers and "snap it" in half
