Help with first time detecting.

Traveling around Aus and am in Kalgoorlie area for a couple of weeks, looking for help with hands on detecting. Having a look at guided day tours, but would really like someone on the forum to point me in the right direction. I have a detector that I have powered up a couple of times, but never used in anger Are there any public areas that I can access? Or someone willing to guide me for a day?

Hey mate.
As I learned I searched my type of detector on YouTube and watched the tutorial on how to set up and swing. Best place is the beach as you cant go wrong for learning and you know your ok to swing and not be on private property or parkland reserves ??

I'd reckon going on a reputable tour/training day or two would be your best bet. They'll be able to help with detecting, your detector (depending on type) & information on accessible land + what you'll need I.e. permits, safety gear etc.
Being the middle of the WA detecting season you might have trouble getting a willing tutor at the moment over there.

If you don't have a western australian miners right already your first step would be to go get one from the mines department. Then ask about pending ground. They should let you know all about it. I do not know if you near a miners right on a guided tour but you will definitely need it to go on your own.

Thanks for the help, have visited Mines dept and they were very helpful. Just came back from a guided day out in Leonora and found my first tiny piece of GOLD. Great day. With so much information on this site it will keep me busy for a while, Cheers
